  1. That seems pretty close to pushing the envelope on PSR rules if we don't get close to balancing the books this year.
  2. The maths do work like that if the £120m figure is true - presumably there are bonuses to be paid if you get promoted etc. You go up, you spend a lot of money. You go down, you need to save a lot of money. So the savings you need to make obviously aren't as high as £120m. But they aren't zero either. Pick the midway point if you like - say £60m?
  3. Very rough and ready. They say that winning the championship playoff is worth £120m or some such like. So if it's worth that much to go up, presumably it costs that much to get relegated (offset by parachute payments).
  4. Does anyone have a rough guess at the scale of sales we'd need to be remotely financially sustainable? I always assumed that we'd need to net about £70m or so just to counter the dramatic fall in revenue following relegation. I appreciate it's a multi-dimensional picture - wages are a feature, not just transfer fees. But my rough guess was that we'd need to make a profit of about £70m in this transfer window just to balance the books - without any reinvestment.
  5. He’s always played two positions then? 🤷
  6. Pretty poor fare. Definitely the second best team. Seemed second to the ball a lot and struggling to link up passes. Robinson looked good again though.
  7. Pretty poor first half. Baz has been great though.
  8. Isn’t Damian Downs on the bench? I thought Adam Blackmore said he was.
  9. Don't agree with this at all. They are all reasonable to very good players at EFL level but v few - if any - are the type of wingers our system needs. Possibly Robinson - but obviously very little to go on. Maybe Edozie - but final product is weak. Armstrong and Diaz are more like forwards who can play on the wing and cut in. Dibling hasn't quite found his position yet - but is obviously (a) an exciting prospect and (b) could leave. I think Still is looking for wingers who can beat a man wide down the flank and then cut the ball into the box. For all their strengths, that's not the go-to skill of any of this lot.
  10. I actually quite enjoyed the Club World Cup. Sure, it's a bit of a joke and a farce, but was reasonably entertaining in parts. Chelsea being crowned World Champions having been 15 points away from being English champions is hilarious. If they are remotely serious about the competition having a future, they need to let in more of the super teams. No Barcelona or Liverpool was a bit mad. At least the real World Cup tends to have the best 10-12 teams in the world competing in it, even if quite a few countries are just making up the numbers.
  11. As others have said, can't really read much into such a match. One thing that I am a bit concerned though is who will play the number 10 role - didn't Fraser play there first half?
  12. Bizarrely, I'm confident. Top 2.
  13. I actually think we have a good Championship squad (even with a few leaving) - just a dire Premier League squad.
  14. God, we are dire
  15. Brilliant stuff. Didn’t flinch, didn’t fold.
  16. I think we should have the Mary Rose on the club crest. Ok, it's actually in Portsmouth, but I think Henry VIII once visited Southampton.
  17. I'd hope the job spec is an ability to escape the division and have a fair chance of surviving in the top flight. Dyche has a great record there.
  18. In the Saints bar at the Villa match, Alan Curbishley was a guest and he suggested Sean Dyche. Is Dyche still on the open market?
  19. No chance. Although we do have a fair chance of beating them at their place.
  20. Relieved to get to 11 points. I guess we are "ahead" of Derby on goal difference unless we conceded about 16 goals more than we score in the next 5 matches and lose them all. (possible, I guess)
  21. I'm sort of assuming/hoping we bring in about £100m quite easily (Dibling, Ramsdale and Fernandes). That should provide some sort of basis for rebuilding the squad. But we will probably spaff it away on re-signing Guido Carillo or some such like.
  22. Quite the thing that I think all of us would now accept 3 points from the remaining 9 matches and finishing bottom with a grand total of 12 points.
  23. That's rather what I mean by a lack of leadership. No one to lift heads.
  24. The greatest failing - amongst many - is the complete lack of leaders on the pitch.
  25. We are miserably shit.
