not sure what the yellow card would be for. If you're not chewing the clock (because it's paused), it's not time-wasting. we start to get more into NFL territory, where you get 40 seconds to snap the ball and a delay of game penalty if you fail to.
-
I think the issue is that if the clock isn't running, the game could get really, really slow....2 minutes to take a corner etc.
-
Surely we can't screw this one up? I think a comfortable win tbh....but would like an early-ish goal.
-
Am I right that the balls tends to be in play for about 30 minutes per half? If so, I can see a rationale for having two halves of exactly 30 minutes (with the half ending when the ball goes dead after that time) - measured on a countdown clock. But, gees, that feels just too American, no?
-
Same. Don’t Corinthians play in those sort of colours?
-
You thought the 3rd goal would decide the outcome. But you also thought Saints could have easily scored 7 or 8?

Saints 1-1 Charlton - Match Thread

Good performance overall. We win that 9 times out of ten. Fair play to Charlton, they defended brilliantly and were well organised. Thems are the breaks. -
EFL to vote on extending the Championship playoffs
SaintBobby replied to badgerx16's topic in The Saints
I like that - if you’re going to have playoffs at all - there are meaningful advantages of finishing in higher position. I think some other sport (Aussie rules?) had a smart system. 6th plays away at 5th, winner plays away at 4th, winner plays away at 3rd. Winner of that promoted. That’s it. -
This is great entertainment

Both full backs excellent today. And encouraging debut for Larin. Not pretty. But pretty effective.

Tippy tappy at the back 🤦♂️

We are not exactly building to be competitive in the Prem next year are we?
-
Start with Flynn. Consider subbing him after he collects his first yellow. Probably about 2 minutes in.

I think I'm in the Tonda must go camp now. Hapless.

Gees.

I’d settle for a repeat of 76. No promotion but win the Cup.

That was dire. We are going to end up somewhere around 12th-14th. With the resources at our disposal, that is a complete, total and utter failure. Tbh, squeaking into the play-offs in 6th place on goal difference would be - on any sensible metric - a very poor season indeed. And we look very unlikely to get close to even making that.
-
Truly dire performance. Lamentable.

Couple of points. 1. Yes, the starting XI is way better than the finishing XI. But I don't mind this. When we have got in trouble in this division it's been when we've had about 45 squad players all of whom are a 6 out of 10. That's just dirge. This season we have some 8,9, 9.5 out of 10 players...and we replace them with 6 or 7/10 players. That's how it should be, really. 2. The substitutions today. Gees. Not the choices. But the timing. We had Fraser and Robinson ready to come on and standing there for what felt like an hour when we were 3-0 up. Suddenly it's 3-1. We might have wanted, say, Edwards now rather than Fraser. Same thing happened as 3-1 became 3-2 with Romeu and Aribo coming on after an age of standing there. Why the f**k does it take so long to make subs and do you have to proceed with the plan if the score changes in the meantime?
-
Deserved win. Brum weren’t at it in the first half. The fluidity of Leo, Azaz, Arma & Fellows in attack is something to behold. Downsides? 1. Never looked like keeping a clean sheet. 2. Aribo…Jesus F***ing Christ.
-
Very poor today. Deserved to lose.
-
Gone back to playing slowly rather than at speed. Badly missing Scienza.
-
Only 8 point spread from 2nd to 17th. This league is brilliant and nuts.
-
Hmmm.....close call 😁

I'm liking the concept of winning the game quickly and then just killing it off. You get a 10 minute warm up, then 30-40 minutes of exhilaration, followed by a half time pint and then 45 minutes of relaxation. Very pleasant way to spend an evening.
