Palace's owners flat out stated they are in negotiation for a premier league midfielder that would be a coup, I don't think they would mention it if negotiations weren't in an advanced state. Papers say we've agreed the fee rather than had a bid, all signs point to Cork leaving unfortunately.

Long more experienced and with a better scoring record... I'd much rather have Welbeck though as I think he has a lot more to him than has been shown at Sunderland and Utd. Long is a known quantity but has my support regardless.

Agreed... With the caveat that we do not let Boruc, Schneiderlin or Rodrigues go until January at the earliest, when we can replace again, I'm reasonably chuffed. Cut out the deadwood that didn't want to be here and got some decent replacements in for 2/3 the price leaving a fair amount more for salaries,strengthening later or some promising youngsters for the academy/development projects. At least we should be sustainable which is more than most clubs can say and was Marcus's watchword for the club.

The Morgan situation is quite strange though, seemingly a tipping point but loads of rumours floating around that the club had already promised he could leave. I don't think anyone really knows what is going on even now but it is clearly not an asset strip. Realistically we probably weren't going to better last year's position anytime soon and that meant our players were at what might be considered their peak value so we sold.

12 million for a backup is ridiculous, let alone anything else. Worth bearing in mind he's our fourth or fifth most expensive signing ever, terrible value for money.
