All hypothetical but if Everton want Emery and can't get him, then get Koeman instead who decides Everton are a better bet than Saints, why would we then be able to get Emery? He has Champions League too.

He shouldn't need convincing of anything. He should know that its not a step up. Unless we have told him things he didn't want to hear and is looking for an out. They obviously want him and he must have given them some sort of encouragement so far. If he leaves us for Everton what does that say about our ambition relative to theirs? Its not Arsenal or Barcelona. Its Everton.

There is only so many times you can keep getting new people in though and keep improving. Plus there is the impact on players, some of whom signed new contracts presumably with Koeman as their Manager next season. Also players like Davis and Fonte who commented how frustrating it was when MP left. Will some of them start doubting the club again? The likes of VVD, Bertrand, Forster, Long who signed for Koeman might be disillusioned. Backroom staff disruption too. Lots of unecessary change IMO and saying we will just keep improving is an easy soundbite. Eventually it will go the other way. Bigger question for me is that it is Everton. What did Reed and cringe Krueger say to Koeman which made him feel Everton are a good step for him. Arsenal yes, Barcelona yes but we would be gutted if Van Dijk or Bertrand left us for Everton.

He may well have been happy and then got a perceived better offer. Thats why ideally you get it sorted quicker if you can.

Just means he would see Everton as being a better bet for success which would be a big blow for us. Arsenal, Barca fair enough. Not Everton. What has changed since Reed's interview? Maybe nothing.

@bigadamsport: For those #saintsfc fans asking, I have nothing concrete on Koeman - I have tried club & we are trying to speak to agent. But..1/2 @bigadamsport: 2/2..but only way things could change after Koeman was adamant he would see contract out is if he & board have not agreed transfer strategy No denials...no confirmations. Doesn't sound great though. Will be such a blow for us if true. Especially to a midtable team.

Reed will look like a right wally doing that interview if he does go! Likewise the bit in the Telegraph about us being so unbothered we didn't even have a meeting about the possibility of him joining Everton.

Everton ITK (all the fans on the forum hang off every word he says) said that its true about the Koeman meeting but that both he (Koeman) and Emery have offers and neither has yet committed. There aren't really any good sources on this apart from perhaps the first Dutch guy. Still dubious there is any truth. If there is it would be a massive blow of course.

Apparently reliable Dutch Journalist Tim de Wit said Koeman and his Agent were travelling to Liverpool today for talks with Everton and he expected him to join Everton.
