Post Match Reaction: Newcastle United 1-1 SAINTS

Its not confusing. Neither is good enough. Davis might be better than Gazza but over his career he hasn't done well at this level. -

OldNick you are missing the point. I know full well what KD has done for us and not disrespecting that. But he isnt good enough for us now. Neither is Gazza. Gazza made an error leading to Chambers clearance off the line and another with a backpass that wasn't as horrendous as everyone is making out. He fumbled a routine ball out for a corner and has an absolutely awful saves to shots ratio. Yes he is what we have, but its not being over the top or disrespectful to repeat what I initially said: Gazzaniga nor Davis are good enough Premier League goalkeepers (now, at this point in both their careers). We should have a second keeper better than both of these, as 90%of PL teams do and every team that wants to finish in the top half. -

Its just true. Neither are up to PL level. You will find the majority will agree with me. -
Excellent player who deserves to be a first choice. Then again, so does Clyne. Actually think eventually CC will be better than Clyne.

Everyone knows Cesar is available.

Gazza might as well be 2nd choice, no real difference between him and Davis. Fact is we have no backup to Boruc that is anywhere near PL standard. Possibly only Palace have a weaker no2 keeper in the whole league. -

Sorry but that back pass error was awful. Absolutely awful. -

Jos and Gazza are so far below the standard of the rest of the team. Morgan booking puts him on 4 so ban looming, wasnt a yellow today either. -
He will be one of the worst to play 5-10 PL games this season. Nearly every game he gifts the opposition a good chance. PL is an unforgiving league where any weakness is exposed.

Most of them yes. Can you name any that are worse?
-
Hooiveld has never been a PL quality player, one of the worst CBs in the league easily. Amazed he is still here.

A sad indictment of the modern Saints fan?

Yeah agree with that. Far easier and more accessible now than in the L1 days. Something good about experiencing those for sure. -
Hooiveld is a top notch replacement anway. Not many teams in the top half with a third choice CB of that quality.

MP loves JWP.

Or Cork benched

They will have reasons for any selection. Probs lots of players carrying knocks or they have seen something in Newcastle's approach that suggests a change needed.

I wonder if those of you who never watch Saints live feel any sense of lower entiltement compared to those who shell out their hard earned cash to support the team? Hypo et al? Have you lowered your expectations since you stopped financially supporting the club? -

They may do - but its not happening at the moment. -

Yes. But not via people watching streams in the majority of cases. Certainly not UK based supporters. -

I'm not into the notion of "better/uber fans" ultimately people choose what they wish to do in their various situations which is fine. Of course fans who attend matches contribute directly to the club in a financial way which armchair fans do not - that is fact, but not a better/worse fan argument at all. I guess it is an impact of the Sky generation, and the streaming will only decrease the number of fans that visit PL (and FL) stadia which is a shame because it is (was) the soul of football in this country. -

Is it? Everyone pretty much uses the internet these days in some way or other, its hardly a niche. Essentially, the mass of streams etc that are available are taking people away from attending matches. Absolutely unbelievable that we haven't sold out more times this season despite the profile of the team. Streaming (both at home and in pubs) has already taken away supporters from attending games. But to see a thread with over 800 posts on it is somewhat galling. Bet the post match Liverpool victory thread was nowhere near that. -

Agree re cup that given previous attendences it would be sensible to price tickets a lot cheaper. Apart from "protecting the price of the brand" I can't see why its not in the clubs interest to have a full ground and potentially introduce new supporters. -

For some of course. But at some of the costs quoted there are clearly those for whom actually going to a stadium, eating a salmonella ridden burger and watching live football is becoming a thing of the past, which is a shame. We have our best team for years and still can't sell out a mid to lower sized PL stadium, whilst the most posted on thread is how to watch streams. -
Prompted by the other thread discussing new stadia and expansions for QPR and Cardiff... Q: The most viewed thread on page one of this forum? A: Watch every game live This thread has approx 60,000 views, double the January transfer window thread, and over 800 posts. Looking through it there seems to be an array of fans who are sharing titbts about different grainy streams, malware ridden websites and dodgy match feeds which charge sizeables fees. Is this more worthy than discussing actual football, or going to live matches? I can understand those who are located abroad, it is a way to watch your team, but realistically how will we ever command greater attendances than the early 30,000s if more and more UK based fans choose to take this path than actually going to see live football? Only a small handful of matches have sold out thus far. Of course this goes beyond just Saints, the FA Cup draw was live at the same time as a PL game for the first time, and on New Years Day there is a live PL game at 3pm (ours incidently). It would be interesting to know how many fans on here do actually go to watch Saints live as a proportion of posters, and how many of those on here are basically just Al-Jazeera monkeys? What sort of ongoing impact will this recent trend have on the future of our club and football as a whole?
