If he is out for a few months that would be a huge blow. He is our most irreplaceable player IMO.

Jos isn't better than Fonte. He scored more goals but Fonte is the better alround defender, and certainly more suited to Prem football - quicker, better on the ball, more composed defender etc.

Nixon back in the mix, saying we watched Dann on Fri and another player being watched tomorrow night. Priorities are CB and def mid, expects decent spend but not huge like the summer. Just reporting what he said...

Opinions - I wouldn't say it is overly ludicrous to judge Dawson as being fairly similar to Jay Rod. Aside from a handful of Prem apps they have had similar paths. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if they had a very similar number of prem apps by the end of this season as Dawson rarely starts at WBA. And against my criteria of young, hungry, talented I would say JR hits all those.

Agree with the confidence bit. Think how many starts JR has had in his favoured position in our first XI ie not in the cup. I can only think of WH away, WBA away (both when the whole team was dire) and then Saturday. Thats three games. Surely we can only judge him after say 10/15 qames? Thats what I will be doing anyway.

If the club publically said Cortese was away on a scouting trip with Les Reed we would be in uproar. Doubt McDermott wants some Russian players - the Pog hasn't exactly worked out well. Doubt McDermott will be there for long.

He was. Austin has a good scoring record but not the allround game needed for the Prem. Will be interesting to see if any bids come in for him. Re Mirrallas - he looks like a very good player. Re Maiga - obviously scored a good goal vs us but yet to do anything consistently to show he is particularly great.

IMO Fox is an adequate back up LB for a team near the bottom of the league. I would say I would feel more confident seeing Fox in the side than if I saw Hooiveld. Obviously Shaw is miles better.

Agree with the first two points but not the rest. Jos is not ok. It is not ok to have 2 CBs plus one not of Prem quality then two rookies. If Fonte say was injured for 3months then either Jos or Yos got a red card we would lose all 3 games they missed for sure. We absolutely need at least 1 CB in the window.

BBC reporting that Reading DoF Nicky Hammond is in Moscow with the owner Zingaravich looking at a couple of players. That wouldn't go down well at Saints...

That he is still adapting. Was reading an interview with Oguchi Onyewu who played for AC Milan, currently at Malaga and he joined newcastle in a Jan window a fe years ago. He said it was very hard to adapt to the Prem - the pace, intensity and that it is totally different to any other league (he has also played in Germany, Portugal and the US so knows about lots of them). He said he wished he hadn't been put straight into the team, and that he had been able to use a pre season to get acustomed.

TBF the OP does come across as a negative slant. For all you know we are in negotiations with him now, or have said to him - look leys wait until x month then we will start talks. However it is assumed we have done nothing. It could also be that JP has said he won't sign another contract at Saints. Nobody knows. As Smirking Saint says, nobody would have offered him a new deal three months ago so lets see if he can keep this up a bit longer. Perhaps even playing for a new deal is what has motivated him? End of the day, the OP did come across as a thinly veiled jibe. Whether it was meant to be only you know, and Im not that bothered as can make up my own opinions on topics such as this. However, I can understand the point SS made, you do have a consistency about yourself with that type of 'Faux ITK' post, which obviously other Forumers will pick up on. Not a dig, just saying how I see it.

There is a lot of time before his contract expires. He is playing for his future and is playing well - suits everyone at the moment. Would Saints offer him a new deal - unsure Would he accept one - unsure

"Kelvin's come in and done great, he was with us in League One, Championship goalie of the year, and is a real club stalwart."

He certainly has a consistency about himself.
