For me the biggest risk is the reaction of the remaining 27 EU countries. The out campaigns wildly optimistic claims that they will fall over themselves to do a trade deal with us does not fill me with hope. We would still be required to contribute to the cost of running EU institutions, we would just be a non voting shareholder, bit like the plucky skates owning their football club without any real control or influence.

You are right Corbyn is as much an oppertunist as Johnson, the difference is Corbyn will never be PM, Johnson might.

Boris has opted for out as part of his Leadership campiagn, its about Boris not about what is best for the UK.

Southampton to launch major US coaching initiative
moonraker replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
I live just down the road from the Bath satellite an it is very much alive and well. Based at Beechen Cliff School (ex pupil Jason Dodd) they have a 4G pitch, great all weather facilities and now boarding facilities for Academy Players, plus big banners advertising SFC's connection with the school. -
The term Shoot to Kill is a media invention, the law allows the Police to use guns under very strict rules of engagement, and the fact that it is a rare event in the UK, despite being a major terrorist target leads me to believe we have it about right. Heaven help us if we ever end up like the US http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/09/the-counted-police-killings-us-vs-other-countries.

If Kloop doesn't like early leavers he should have taken the Not Arf Krapp job, the bestest fans in world would never leave early, perhaps not, even without early leavers that place feels empty and lonely.
-
Just looked at the bin dippers reaction to their messiahs words, much the same as on here: lock everyone in, shame the early leavers, charge them more etc. etc. Strange how someone else exercising their hard won freedoms and liberty to leave a football stadium at the time of their choosing can generate such authoritarian opinions from people who I am sure are normally tolerant freedom loving souls.
-
A thread about Klopp turns into a rant fest for Ubber Fans. I have occasionally left early, either because I need to get home (2+ hours away) or I just cant stand to watch anymore, but never just because we were loosing. Perhaps we should have whole rows of seats designated as early leavers seats near the exits.

Southampton the 6th best city to live in...
moonraker replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Lounge
Misleading title, the report is not about the Best City to live in but bout the Economic Growth and potential of the cities. It discounts any city with a population, including Travel to Work Areas, of less than 250000. Be happy the economic potential of Southampton is bright. -
Strange comment, are the EDL, BNP etc. full of left leaning protestors. You seem to assume that any protest against right wing policies or actions must be left wing led this simplistic, naïve, and plain ill informed or just a pathetic attempt at political points scoring. The vast majority of protest across the political and civil spectrum are peaceful.

Some interesting angles on here, this bubble was burst a while ago in that most manly of sports Rugby Union, Gareth Thomas 100 Welsh caps, came out, short media frenzy then everyone got with their lives and Gareth is still best remembered as a great rugby player. Once footballs closet door is open it will stay open and this will all be forgotten.

He is right there are no rivals for crappy L2 football

Net migration is circa 300000 not 500000. We have certainly absorbed similar % increases in the past, the Huguenots (just an example) in the 17th century swelled the population by circa 0.84%. Today 300000 (in exceptional circumstances) is a little over 0.4% so we are debating an increase of less than half of 1%, in a country with a near neutral birth rate the UK population. It is also worth noting that mass migration are in the vast majority of cases followed by a reversal with large numbers returning whence they came. During the French revolution 500000 fled France more 50% returned.

Politics is strange business. We regularly get into this online debate that tends to polarise views and extol the softer virtues of one ideology or lambasts the extremist views of the same ideologies. The majority of people in this country are on the fence, the decide who to vote for during a general election campaign, they may reflect on the outgoing governments overall record, they may read the manifestoes but most make their minds up on one or two issues; most often the economy (stupid) and then whatever is topical at the time. Party leaders are elected by the party and by definition by those committed to one ideology or another. Change or shift the ideology and the membership changes, Corbyn has attracted a more left wing membership than we have seen for a long time, the only mandate he has is from the left wing of the current party. The Tories are more subtle and arguably more loyal, they have a core membership of the 'philanthropic' urban and rural middle classes. These people don't protest (hunting aside) and they are in my personal experience tolerant, but what is most worrying is that what really unites them is the fear of the left (anything left of centre) and the fear of Johnny Foreigner, all a Tory leader has to do is address these 2 issues and he can do anything else he like or she likes. They all care they just have different way of showing it, oh and they really care about power.

Its a crap system

Austerity does not mean balancing the books it means: the condition of living without unnecessary things and without comfort, with limited money or goods, or a practice, habit, or experience that is typical of this

Worked fo me 18 months smoke free and no desire to go back, still vaping but its habit not addiction.

I give him 2 years tops he is unelectable as PM, this man has never had to make a decision that actually meant anything. Principles and ethics are to be admired, real decision makers and politicians must be cognoscente of the real world in their own time and do what works. No extreme left or right Government in History has ever really succeeded, indeed in the main they leave their countries far worse off. This man does not represent Labour, he represents an ideology that has failed elsewhere and that at best can positively influence some policies at worst would destroy this countries values, reputation and economy. I cant stand the Tories but Corbyn is not the answer and he has just handed the Tories at least another 5 years if not 10. One positive outcome maybe an honest realignment of Centre Left politics aka the SDP but this time not a gang 4 but a gang of 50 plus.

Sky Sports Sunday Suplement 'Saints would sell Pelle if they could'
moonraker replied to Bensfcno1's topic in The Saints
I get really pi**ed of we the selling club tag. All our leavers have been tapped up or had there heads in turned in some way. Also they have only gone to three clubs, all much bigger than Saints in every sense. -
I do not deny that House prices overtime have always risen and was not advocating renting as the best choice for everyone just that the true costs of home ownership are rarely acknowledge. Your friend was obviously able to weather a number of housing crisis, since 1990 there have been over 2.2m repossessions, that's a lot o misery. I have house I bought for £70k now worth £550k, however I have also spent an over £100k on maintenance and improvements and more will be needed soon. Your client has had to wait nearly 50 years for his return (and will still need somewhere to live) and similar returns are far less likely if you are starting out today. I have friend who is property developer, interestingly he has always rented his own home as he contends that it is only worth 'investing' in property to trade not to live in, don't necessarily agree with him, but he has sent 3 kids to Public Schools and has a very comfortable life.

This is a particularly British issue. We are obsessed with property ownership. The place you live in is your home, whilst as owner occupier it may rise in value (and historically this is generally the case) there are also many negatives. Any equity you have is purely on paper, you have to sell your home to release it or re-mortgage and take on more debt. The cost of ownership is rarely factored in to the ongoing cost of house. All liabilities arising from an owner occupier house are yours. Over a 20 - 30 year occupancy repairs can easily run into tens of thousands of pounds (Roofing, electrics, plumbing, drainage), when a housing slump. Interest rate hikes will reduce your ROI or worse force you into arrears (in the 1980’s they reached 18%). Housing slumps and interest rate hikes normally come along together, they hit your paper worth and can plunge one into the red very quickly, you may loose your home but you wont loose the debt, you will pay stamp duty when you buy and estate agents fees when you sell. People who own their own homes are psychologically less mobile often enduring lengthy and expensive commutes, when moving would be the more sensible option. Whilst renting has its drawbacks it allows you get on with your life and not be obsessed with your own little 'Englishman's Castle. Finally if the worst happens and you are out of work and broke the state will cover your rent they wont cover your mortgage.

Right just back from a very humbling game. Firstly Everton were good, played a simple but very effective game and ruthlessly exploited our weaknesses. Positives Pele he did everything but score, Mane with a little more luck would have scored thats it. It is very early in the season, we have had a wake up call (aka Gooners and West Spam), I am most interested in how we respond to this.
