This is my issue as well - it's all waffle and never changes which means the mistakes on the pitch never change. It's a load of catch-phrases and cliches without substance and always leaves me feeling that we will continue to throw away winning positions because RM has no intention of doing anything that might rectify the glaring omissions which cause our regular capitulations.
-
I think RM is here next season whatever happens.
-
AA was totally at fault for the second goal - this is very clear from the highlights.
-
The next fan's forum could be interesting if RM and Baz are still in their current roles.
-
Surely if Baz moves on we buy a new keeper who can make saves?
-
So you are assuming none of our youngsters would rise to the occasion? I've seen bags of promise in Sam Amo-Ameyaw who is nearly 18 now and only one year younger than Kobbie Mainoo who is playing for Man Utd and England. If they're good enough they're old enough. As to the goalkeeper you talk as though Baz is miles better than Lumley - not from what I've seen so why not give the latter a chance? This is a chance to try out players with nothing riding on results.
-
I would say goals two and three come into this category. The second goal AA was always closest to the eventual scorer but for some reason chose to just leave him with all the space in the world in our box. The winning goal we chose not to press the guy on the left who supplied the assist and those in the middle sat too close to our goal marking no one instead of spreading out and giving Ipswich no space and not being close enough to press the scorer who ridiculously had time to take a bad touch, slip over and still jump up and toe poke the ball home. Lessons need to be learned but they never are and probably won't be now. The first goal was all on Baz.
-
We should be planning for the play offs now so a chance to try out some of the youngsters and give Lumley a try in goal. The results of individual games are no longer as important and our focus should be on getting ready for 2 huge matches leading hopefully to a massive final. The play off games may need some tactical tweaks rather than carrying on as we are which clearly risks us throwing away good positions through lack of in-game management. Time for RM to admit the flaws in his one system game plan and introduce some alternatives - he could learn a lot from the Ipswich manager who managed to turn a likely defeat into a stunning victory by changing things. I won't hold my breath.

Isn't this a damning indictment of every person involved in the running our football club? We were told at the fans forum that Baz was some kind of goalkeeping genius. There was an anger and arrogance towards any criticism of him. Yet, once again, he sits rock bottom of the stats for his league.

If it aint broke, break it! This sums up Rasmus who is clearly not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

RM is in charge of a quality squad at this level. He has them playing some great football and we've scored many very well-worked goals this season. Unfortunately, where he comes unstuck is in his stubborn and somewhat arrogant mantra that we will never change the way we play - to give him his due we don't and therein lies the big problem which is in-game management. He has no plans or alternatives during games when we come under the cosh which will inevitably happen in most matches whatever the standard of the opposition. No team can hope to dominate for 90 minutes which makes it clear that, during the times when trying to stem the tide, you need to do something different rather than arrogantly and vainly hoping that your one and only system will somehow keep your goal in tact - it won't and it hasn't on many occasions as we've all seen. This is his major flaw that has cost us the chance of automatic promotion because it results in throwing away precious points and also gives opponents and their managers hope they can get something from us in every game we play.
-
Who would be your two holding midfielders?
-
It's his get out of jail free card that fools absolutely no one. He drops KWP amid a furore from disgruntled fans and seeks to justify his decision by claiming that Bree played really well when clearly, to most watching, he didn't. It's a character flaw and not a great trait for someone managing a football club.
-
It does defy all logic that we search for a new keeper as cover because the number 1 is not a great shot-stopper and sits rock bottom of the Championship stats for this season whilst the number 2 is being paid £50k weekly to go through the motions at training and the best we can come up with is someone who sat rock bottom of the Championship stats for the previous season. Is the tea lady in charge of recruiting goalkeepers?
-
Have to disagree - I don't think many would have let in the first.
-
The numbers are pretty damning to be fair. Even with some leeway for data error it's hard to defend Baz.
-
Agree. He looked decent and was always very quick off his line as the sweeper keeper. Deserves a chance after more errors from Baz last night.
-
The ref clearly allowed himself to be influenced by the baying Ipswich fans who'd howled their derision every time a free-kick rightly went to us for the multiple bad fouls committed by their dirty players. We were basically kicked off the park and the ref should have sent off Morsy for numerous thuggish assaults.

Clearly we are conceding far too many goals this season leading to dropping crucial points and finding ourselves cut adrift from the automatic promotion positions. We play some great football and score some superb goals but, as was the case last night, it's often not enough. RM is never shy of stating that we will never change our possession based style whatever happens. It is this arrogant attitude that leads to us conceding so many goals and throwing away good positions. No team can expect to dominate an opponent for 90 minutes and there will always be times when you need to batten down the hatches and ride out a temporary storm. Good coaches spot the danger signs and use in game management but not RM. If he wasn't so obsessed with keep ball he'd have in place a tactical reset to deal with the sticky periods we face in every game. He could then get a message to the players to go into survival mode and set up a low block with less risky play from the back, a bit of old fashioned shit-housery and more direct football until the tide turns. There are always trigger points when such alternative tactics could be introduced - as examples last night the obvious signs were when Ipswich hit the post or when Bednarek was injured. These two incidents led to Ipswich getting on top for the first time in the game. Instead of reacting RM continued with his gung-ho approach and we inevitably conceded crucial goals. The other elephant in the room regarding conceding too many goals is the goalkeeper. Baz simply does not make anything like enough saves and lets in too many soft goals. Maybe RM has been loyal to him for too long and perhaps Lumley should have been given more opportunities. It is probably time to take Baz out of the firing line for the next few games and let's see what Lumley can do. If he shows he can cope he'll be a better option for the play-offs.

Yes, these photos for the third goal are quite damning. The route to the right side of the goal is blocked by a cluster of players so clearly he needs to be anticipating and moving left much earlier and quicker than he does. Had he used his instincts and gambled he'd surely save the shot. He just seems to lack many of the basic requisites needed to play in goal including awareness, agility, smelling danger and the ability to push hard off one foot when diving. He's only really good with the ball at his feet.
-
Agree with much of this summary.
-
There's some truth in this. For example watch Adam Armstrong for the Ipswich equaliser which was a pivotal goal. He is the nearest player to the goalscorer yet takes no responsibility in going to mark him. Had he done such a fundamental basic thing Ipswich would not have scored. I get that he's not a defender but, as an attacker, you'd think he'd be far more aware of the danger but he seemed completely oblivious. I would hope that sort of dereliction to duty is highlighted in no uncertain terms during the post match debrief.
-
I get what you say but these games are still very important. We need to win as many as possible to breed confidence going into the play-offs. We can't afford to coast through them just because the auto spots are out of reach.
-
Any keeper worth his salt should be comfortably stopping their first goal tonight. It was a real howler.
-
Yes, would be karma to beat these dirty cheats at Wembley.
