  1. I think anyone who has watched us play would be well aware that Benarek, Maitland-Niles and Moi are not the answers unless the question is, 'who shouldn't start against Chelsea?'
  2. Actually I think the majority said they were impressed with his press conference but waiting to see his line-up, formation and team performance. We've seen the line-up and it's fair to say most of us wouldn't have picked Bednarek, Maitland-Niles or Moi so a little disappointed. Let's see how the formation and performance pans out.
  3. How did he manage to get injured since yesterday's press conference?
  4. Mmmm, looks like 5 at the back and another who picks Bednarek, Elyounoussi and Maitland-Niles. We'll see but my confidence has been dented already. Reuben is taking a big chance with those picks and, if it backfires, fans will be on his back. Hope he knows what he's doing but I'm not impressed and we have better players on the bench. Early positivity is draining away.

    Ruben Selles

The Marsch deal fell through so Selles gets his chance. His presser was faultless so a good start. Obviously today we'll learn a lot more about what he has to offer. Being the man in charge might be the making of him and, up to this moment, he'll only have been a bit part player in the big decisions on tactics and team selection. Now it's going to be his side, formation and tactics. If there are good signs (even in defeat) he'll deserve more games. What the future holds for him none of us know and he himself will be well aware that this is a pivotal moment for him - we all hope it'll go brilliantly but, equally, he may crash and burn - nothing ventured nothing gained. Good luck today Ruben, we all want you to be a success.
  6. I think Tall Paul would be better used as a sub in this game.
  7. The run across the defender and instinctive finish against City proves to me that the lad has talent - the ball was in the net before their defenders and keeper had time to blink. You can't do that if you're rubbish and game time is what he needs in my opinion. Also I've seen other little cameos from him that give reasons to think he's got something.
  8. Think he needs games. Has shown some real promise for me especially the finish against City. Agree he's a gamble but maybe we need to be trying something a bit different.

    Ruben Selles

Would love to see this guy get a tune out of the team tomorrow. He talks so much sense he deserves to get of to a good start and that doesn't necessarily mean a win. I worry that his biggest problem is going to be individual errors that cost us goals or result in missed chances. However, if he can get this core or spine of the team right that he mentions maybe we'll eliminate some of the mistakes which often stem from panic or disorganisation.

    Ruben Selles

If Selles proves himself to be a top class manager it will be amazing. Obviously none of us know how he will do but his CV shows he's gained a fair bit of experience in different countries. Like you say, we must all wish him well and hope this works out for him and the club - might be a long shot but let's see.
  12. It was a cup game so probably not the side he'd have chosen for a Premier League game.

    Ruben Selles

I thought he spoke very well, he obviously has an excellent command of the English language. He comes across as very excited to be overseeing the squad for the Chelsea game and his answers were all measured and sensible. Let's see how he sets up, who he picks and how we play tomorrow. It's a tough opening fixture for him so signs of improvement and a clear identity of how he wants us to play will get him off to a good start so long as we don't get easily beaten. Good luck Reuben, hope you're our manager at the start of next season because it'll mean you've done well in our remaining fixtures.
  14. I''m interested to see how Selles approaches this. He knows we need to get wins on the board so probably has two options. Set up to keep it tight, spoil, disrupt the flow and hope to keep it tight and nick a goal on the break or, go more gung ho and press hard high up the pitch, get in their faces and take the game to them. I'd love to see the second option because we signed five new players in January and maybe he can pick a decent offensive side out of our squad. Plus we haven't really tried that approach and ok, we might get well beaten but surely we have to try it at some stage.
  15. Assume they are seeing things we can't and loving it.

I think it will largely depend on how we perform against Chelsea. Win, lose or draw if there are signs of improvement and a pattern/shape to our play the owners might not be so desperate to get someone in. However, if we are dire then they will be forced to act.

    Ruben Selles

For me Selles is very much an unknown quantity. He has worked under Ralph and Jones both of who would have been making the main decisions - Ralph was known to be quite stubborn and Jones had his other two coaches so it may be that Selles didn't have much of a voice. Ok, he took charge of the Sheff Wed game but those matches are notably difficult and he didn't pick some of the main first teamers because it was the cup. We weren't great on the night but scraped through and I won't judge him on that game. He's obviously going to be in charge for the next few games so let's give him a clean slate and see how he does. I'm hoping he surprises us.
  18. Plus Dave Horseman from B-Team.
  19. Assume it's Alek Gross, Andrew Sparkes and Carl Martin?
  20. Any idea who the other coaches are in the photos apart from Selles?
  21. I think Shearer was only in charge at Newcastle for 8 games - they won 1 drew 2 and lost 5. We need someone for 16 games so not far off half a season. We need to either give the job to Selles for the rest of the season or, find someone who we think has a chance of winning enough games to keep us up.

    Ruben Selles

I haven't heard any so if there have been I've missed them. With Marsch having not worked out I imagine SR will be continuing to work towards bring in a new manager and Selles gets the gig until then.
  23. I'd also class him as part of SR. However, with his other business interests to run, I'd be surprised if he has much time to get involved with day to day decisions at our club. I would imagine he leaves it to the guys running SR to make decisions and they go to him with proposals and requests for money to facilitate their plans. Ok, he then has to make a decision whether to release funds but I'd expect that to be about as involved as he gets. Ankersen and Kraft are supposedly clever guys so Dragan wouldn't expect to have to hold their hands.
  24. I'm not nit-picking because there is plenty to pile on to SR about. It's clear that Dragan is the big investor, it's his money they're freely spending so if I want to credit anyone with putting investment into the club it goes to Dragan not the other clowns.
  25. Right so my take is that he's providing the money and the guys actually running SR are busy shoving it down the nearest drain. I would imagine Dragan trusted the likes of Ankersen and Kraft plus maybe Semmens to run things and make the decisions. He may now be regretting having been persuaded to back these people.
