Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll
rpb replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Phil Boyer was a fine player and, I agree, he did marvels for us - we played some of our best football ever when he was making runs up front. However, Ron Davies was up there with the best centre forwards in the world. -

Now I am confused! Davies scored 97 goals and Boyer got 49 - why does PB deserve to be in the A team ands not RD? -
Eric Martin trained a team I played for one season (Maple Sports).

Thanks but I intend to vote for Ron Davies when we vote for the last player in the A Team not the B Team! -
When I was driving taxis, I took Gordon Banks and Terry Conway from the Polygon to Central Station - 1/6d fare + 6d (2 and a half pence) tip!!!

Not sure it was a while ago - I seem to remember that Lowe wanted to include shops and a cinema but Eastleigh retailers/Council objected to this. As for denigrating Lowe's involvement in St Mary's, I do know that McMenemy was going on about needing a new ground from 1976 (and others before that) and that Lowe did deliver one whereas many other people didn't.

Sorry, Pahars was good but Davies was better. -
'Ripley and Ostenstat have got a really exciting understanding!' I can remember saying that after we played Liverpool.
-
On the day, we were immense but how did we get on against Everton a few weeks later?
-
In hind-sight you are right but at the time we thought it was brilliant - you can hardly blame Lowe for not thinking the same.

Agree with the first point. Second point - your take on the voting would have automatically put him in the B Team. Who are you to decide that Ron Davies should defo be in the B Team? What's the point in a vote at all in that case? -

Because that would mean Ron Davies would be in the B Team. How silly would that be? -

I'll go for Keegan too - saving Ron for the A team. -
Only 18 points from a play off spot!

I can remember some terrible half-hearted performances at the Dell as well - it wasn't always blood and thunder.

I believe it! But there, I've believed them all...

I doubt that very much. -
Last time we sank that low, we struggled for a while before getting a good team together so I would expect us to do much the same next time...

That's very true and will most likely happen - could you not suspend the B Team selection until the A team is sorted, StL? -
Aren't these the people who refuse to go to St Mary's whilst Lowe is there? Bit difficult for them to protest under the circumstances...

Would prefer Ron on the left so that he is at the far post for Paine's crosses. -

Mike Channon (partnered by Ron) for me too. -
Well I have enjoyed it.

There's a picture of the goal on page 60 in Constant Paine! Not quite as far out as it was in my memory but the shot did come in from out on the touch line.

We know that - it was established ages ago that smoking is a foul (but legal) habit - read the thread! The 'special consideration' is to go outside (away from you pure clean-living individuals) at half time and have a cigarette - why does that upset you?
