But he is the coach... Perhaps the initial question was unfair?
-
Does this thread actually prove anything?
-
On his day John Hoskins was a tricky winger (saw him score from an impossible angle against Brighton once) but he was a bit erratic and was often replaced in that position by Johnny Walker (they even tried Tommy Traynor there). Generally wingers are often erratic, Tommy Jenkins could be sensational one week and useless the next whilst the steadiness of Harry Penk was preferred to the speed of John Sydenham for a while.
-
He didn't ever play wide left either - I would have liked MLT in this position but as he is now our creative midfielder (or work horse!), I would like to nominate John Sydenham.

Officially The Worst Season In Our Entire History Take A Bow Jan/Wilde/Lowe
rpb replied to St Marco's topic in The Saints
I remember that game because I wasn't allowed to go! It was an evening match and I had school the next day - we had Paine, Reeves and Livesey in our line up and less than 8 000 turned up. Ted Bates was the manager and the following season we were promoted from Div 3. Imagine what it would have been like on this board after that result if it had existed back in 1959... -
I am way out of the age bracket (61) but in the 50s the dentist would offer you the choice of 'gas or cocaine' before extracting a tooth...

We've been relegated three times in my lifetime - I can't remember the chairman ever resigning...
-
I doubt it, I suspect that he is on a rolling contract so there won't be a big pay out if he is sacked.
-
Trust me, there have been plenty worse - we only conceded two goals for a start. It was poor though and really disappointing considering the importance of the game.

Did anyone understand what JP was saying after the match??
rpb replied to Tamesaint's topic in The Saints
Why? It worked with Strachan. -
You want him in goal?
-
Actually he made a few good points after that - he said nice things about you too!
-
I know he has only come on late in three games but has he actually kicked the ball for us yet?
-
Keegan and Ball - it's the only way that I can see KK getting in the team.
-
Perhaps it costs less in stewards/police?

Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll
rpb replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Agreed, that is just silly - sadly he is also in the lead so looks destined for the B Team! I fancied a midfield of Paine, Keegan, Ball and MLT - it will be annoying if Keegan gets selected in his wrong position in the reserves first! -

I am glad the goal-posts were moved! Having seen how people have interpreted St L's instructions MLT was in grave danger of being voted into the B Team - that would not have looked good! 'Saints' fans snub their greatest player' headlines in the Echo... -
I wondered that as well. Different times I know but when we were in Div 3 in the 50s we averaged about 14 000.

I would nominate him for LM but you can nominate him for any of the remaining positions, so it's up to you really... -

I will name and shame me for nominating Danny Wallace as RW/RM, I did check it out later and, though he did play a handful of games in that position, he was mainly LW or Striker. In my mind I had George Lawrence (RW) substituting for him in a few games and jumped to the wrong conclusion... Looks like he may make the B Team as RW though! PS You can't blame me for Keegan, Ball or Tessum (or Eric Day!!!) -

He was our second best RW but he was also Saints best ever striker (IMO) - by St L's rules, he can only fill one position... I am taking this too seriously! -

All true - but a tactical vote for Danny W would allow you to vote for both AB and KK in the main team... PS Eric Day was not great in Div 3 South - no idea how he got nominated! -

You are right, he played the vast majority of games for Saints as number 11 though he did also play at 7 a few times as well. The problem with the B team RW slot is that once Paine, Channon and MLT are taken out of the equation (all too good for the B team), there isn't much left. Who did you nominate? -

It's only farcical because you haven't read St L's instructions properly... Should MLT be in the A Team? Yes - obviously! So why are you upset that people are not voting him into the B Team? -

Alan Ball and Keegan are the best of this bunch but do people really want one of them to go as RM in the B Team?
