  1. I've also spent hours rewriting SoW for the new GCSE standards which will now be redundant. As our boss said today "why the fu.ck did we bother?" One course we've delivered for the last few years changed on August 31st. Taken ages to redo and today we had an email to tell us that those standards will be replaced again next summer. Insane.
  2. Ex-Smoker. Foul habit.
  3. Knowing Corky as I do he will know all the wealthy folk you mention & will be all over it like a rash.
  4. TBF the maps app is sh.it compared to Google. As soon as the google map app is ready I'll be downloading that.
  5. That's the thing in the reforms that everyone welcomes. One board for each qual.
  6. Well spotted. It, of course, should have been too. Interesting that the usual pendants didn't spot the error. It also illustrates why I don't teach English!
  7. It needs to be taught properly BEFORE they get to secondary school. My 7yo in Y2 uses punctuation & grammar correctly because she's taught it properly, as is my nipper in Y6. It's almost to late by the time they get into KS3 & certainly to late by KS4. However, I see plenty, every day, who have been taught poorly & our English Dept spends 1000s of man hours teaching 16+ how to employ it correctly.
  8. Wrong. There is almost universal agreement that change is needed.
  9. I know skates who genuinely believe he's the best manager outside of the Premier League.
  10. There is no sentiment in football. It's all about results.
  11. As most in the profession have been saying for a while. League tables introduced a culture of playing the system and I actually know a Knight of the Realm whose honour is based on his school working out how to play the 5 A*-Cs game better than anyone else & before anyone else. It was a simple con but politicians & the Establishment happily ignored it as the results looked awesome.
  12. We just said the exact same thing.
  13. And how would one go about such a thing?
  14. The underlying problems aren't going to disappear. They are societal.
  15. As long as the weaker are catered for and grade boundaries are set and not moveable.
  16. As I said, it's the system, not the schools.
  17. The Functional Skills element has been introduced to tackle that issue. Everyone in the business excepts it's an issue but the system, geared as it is around league tables, means focus is almost exclusively on A* - C. It's all about knowing what to do to pass exams & not how to apply what has been learned in the real world.
  18. He was fantastic.
  19. I'd agree with that.
  20. League tables & to many exam boards have led to teaching solely to pass exams by schools and a dumbing down of exams by the boards. Perhaps the changes to those areas will prove positive as for the rest, a step back not forward in many respects.
  21. The misinformed boll.oxs they spout is pure quality.
  22. We said the same.
  23. They were a couple of rows directly in front on me. Sh*t trainers, cargo shorts and check shirts with the one on their right looking as if he was auditioning for a role as a Dingle. Scruffy, pathetically gobby & the use of cut throat gestures but they had the look of those that would cr*p their pants & leg it at the first sign of mither.
  24. Action man may well have look less of a c*nt.
  25. My mood hasn't been improved by my nippers team defending like Saints against the reigning champions with a similar result!
