Exactly. No one sane wants Russia to get anything, it's just the most likely scenario.
  2. Miovski but failing that Adebayo.
  3. Which looks like exactly what we've done if we are signing the jap.

Let's see what happens. I bet you that a negotiated settlement is way more likely than your perpetual war scenario.
  5. Let's be honest we've probably already told him he can leave.
  6. Not sure we will get anything like that. I reckon West ham will push for a straight swap. I'd probably take Downes and 5 million which means sugawara would be 10 million of our budget. Not bad going.
  7. Would be a nice bonus if he does prove himself useful. Like you say we can't really rely on him at all but he'd be a good squad option with the thinking that he could play his way into the squad.
  8. Even better from a ffp point of view if we do manage to include him in a swap deal for Downes. If we do keep manning and Bree then we will particularly weak backups in those positions. Maybe we need a decent utility man who can do a job on either side.
  9. That's a fantastic signing if true. Looks to be the absolute best we could hope for to replace kwp.
  10. Wouldn't Stewart be the physical presence? It's a risk relying on him obviously. Maybe we can bring one striker in and then maybe get a promising one on loan. Maybe someone who can play AM and striker if required.

Agreed. That is almost certainly how it will end. Happy to revisit this thread in a year or two to see what the outcome was.

Who was mooting negotiation with ISIS? I remember soggy suggesting it on here and how ludicrous it was at the time because he was roundly mocked.
  13. It's a rehash of the random twitter account from the other day.
  14. TBF we don't know what his reasons are for rejecting us if that's what he's done. We were all pretty annoyed about not getting Piroe last year then Blackmore said it was because he wanted kickbacks for his family and we wouldn't pay it. Maybe this is similar.
  15. It's nice to be linked to a few high end quality players. Would be nice to get one or two over the line though so it's exciting.
  16. Guessing that's a more affordable alternative to o'riley

Or until Russia stop attacking them. Because there is some form of agreement.

Time isn't on the side of the Ukrainians who are all dying.

Who said it was OK? Putin is a tyrant who hopefully gets killed ASAP. Doesn't change the fact that this imo is overshelmingly likely to end with some sort of deal.

They wouldn't view NATO troops on Ukrainian soil as not a provocation.

OK then. Let's imagine we do what you suggest. So it ends with what? Russia giving back the Donbas and Crimea and retreating back to Moscow? And that's the end of it? Worth remembering history and how punitive sanctions after ww1 greatly contributed to the conditions for ww2.

He hasn't gotten away with anything. He's killed countless thousands of his own people, will be significantly weakened for decades to come and will hopefully be assassinated or something similar. Pragmatic people with a deep knowledge of Russia and Ukraine have already stated that this ends with some sort of deal where Russia can save some sort of face whilst in reality having to climb down from the majority of their aims.

Neither do I. Sadly the world is imperfect and there are no easy answers. What's the alternative then?

If the thinking is that Russia can't be seen to benefit in any way then how does this situation end in that scenario?

I'm not an expert on these matters, but people who know a lot more than I do about the situation have suggested that this will only end with some form of deal that may involve Russia having Crimea for example. It's a grim reality but I don't see how things aren't solved without some form of deal. What's the alternative?
