I think we should sign a player that is more likely to join us who is better than Adams and Mara. We've had a year to look for realistic options. Shouldn't be difficult.
-
All a bit late to be suggesting players now I would expect.
-
I really don't blame Jones now. It's the club hierarchy that deserves the derision and if it stays like this we will be relegated which at the very least will see their egos and reputation take a hit which is some small consolation.

Is the Premier League too rich for us?

Quite similar to the Lowe era in some ways but with updated figures. -

Whilst I agree, I do think to a degree that we simply don't have the cash to spend on real quality so anything we do buy will be a gamble. I think at the very top end we would sanction a 25 million pound signing but that's the equivalent of about 15 from a few seasons ago. We clearly aren't prepared to pay the 30 million plus required for the top end talent for teams like West ham and villa etc and I expect the bigger players aren't really prepared to come here. We've clearly also had a mindset change from a few years ago where we think more small-time and that has an impact too. Brighton are having their moment in the sun but I'd like to see then in 5-7 years as I expect they will be in the same position as we are now. -
I think there's a chance that their thinking is that they can't attract someone of the quality they want given our position and that maybe they think we need a bit of a reset in the championship and that's a preferable option to spending 30 million now to maybe improve our chances of survival. What they want is a load of youngsters with time and opportunity to improve that they can then flog for a profit to buy the next batch. Realistically they aren't going to be able to achieve that goal in the prem without first spending a load of money on more established players.

There's quite a few attackers in the champion ship that may be more realistic. Someone like akpom or the guy from Hull. It's not great but at least we'd know they could do a job next year if we did go down.
-
If he does well enough and keeps us up then I would expect most fans would be on board.
-
Then either the model is wrong or the scouting system is and should be scrapped.
-
That's clearly bollocks. If we truly had a tiny budget then forego the other three signings and put everything in a pot to get a striker better than Adams and Mara.
-
Personally I think strength of character and a desire to win the fans round would be a much better response than being passive aggressive and nakedly angry.
-
Yep. I was really pissed off in the summer about not signing a striker but I half expected it this time around. You can't be disappointed if your expectations are rock bottom and nothing the fans or the manager-however dubious he may be- can do if the club don't provide him with adequate tools to work with.
-
And to be fair we are lucky to even be in this league.
-
So if Sulemana goes to Everton where are our lot going to turn for an attacker? I'm not even disappointed anymore, more amused if anything. All you can do is laugh. Supporting this club is never dull.
-
It's actually quite interesting how quickly a lot of the fans have decided Jones is not up to it. I do agree with you, I am just surprised by, the strength of feeling.

My brother in law is an ex footballer and he was asked to provide Co commentary at a match the other week. Their local radio station tends to have a mixture of different ones which I feel enhances the experience by a lot.

Glad that's over.

Wonder how many more times we will see Theo in a saints shirt.
-
Stick Perraud up front.
-
I'd like to see us give a good go of keeping jwp for a season. No idea if he'd want to or if its realistic but I think there might be a chance. Would massively increase our chances of going up.
-
That's a fair comment. I don't think there's anything wrong with giving an immediate reaction at the end of a window. It's not a definitive opinion, just like it's annoying if someone calls a signing underwhelming when they sign and they get accused of writing someone off.
-
Exactly.
-
Hence why I said probably as nothing is definite in life. I know your opinion is that we don't need a striker but I would suggest that you are in a real minority here.
-
My hopes that they'd learnt diminished significantly when we'd got to the Everton game without signing an attacker.
