He was marking McKenzie. He let him go and belatedly appealed for offside. ITV and Sky picked up on the marker letting McKenzie go. I'm not looking for potential in McGoldrick. He is capable of playing for the team. Against Norwich he did, Barnsley, Ipswich, Coventry he didn't. I don't suppose James is too happy about the criticism he is getting, or the exposure to attackers running at and behind him because the wide player has gone missing.
-
Well maybe it's time he disciplined himself, plays in the position assigned, covers his defenders, marks the assigned opponent at dead ball situations, and plays like he cares. MLT he isn't.
-
He didn't clarify anything, he just copied you his original post. Nobody is going to name names, look what happened after Woggy was quoted on here.
-
It's information from unatributable sources. You carry on believing what you like. Your sources are hardly going to confirm it, you were always going to get a denial. In any event you may have done everybody a favour, by letting the club know, it's in the public domain.
-
No more problems now, rumour has it, he selects the players and picks the team, we are on our way, but don't ask where.
-
What I expect to happen, is the manager quickly sorting out any player not playing to the team plan. The players need to know that this will happen, otherwise we are in for more indisciplined hammerings.
-
It was always going to be a performance and result rollercoaster. Some of the players need a wake up call, they need to play with discipline. Defenders who are exposed already by indisciplined forwards not tracking back or tackling like ballet dancers, really don't need to race forward to get into the opponents penalty area, thereby leaving even bigger gaps and massive exposure to counter attack.
-
A lot of the problem is the space available to the opposition around our defence. Players without discipline/sloppy marking. The opposition playing in behind us. The pace of players running and playing one/twos through a turning defence, especially one with their hands in the air appealing, looks quicker than it actually is.

Nick, I know where Weston got his information from. It is absolutely, from inside the dressing room.

Missed the real point with James. He was trying to fill the whole of the right side, front and back on his own, as McGoldrick refuses to play where he is put, doesn't track back, and is totally selfish in the way he plays. It needs the other players to pass the ball out to the empty right side and then tell him to get out there. He will then become the scapegoat. James needs to just sit back and pass down the line rather than trying to do too much. He will then be less exposed and make McGoldrick look stupid.
-
I agree with a lot of this, however if a player is picked to play in a position he either gives it a go and tries to make a success of it or doesn't play at all. McGoldrick can play wide adequately. He seems to be better there than sterile in the middle, dominated by the centre backs. The problem is that once picked in one of the fundamental positions for the team, he stays inside, doesn't play wide, causing us massive problems.
-
Together with possible favouritism from interfering executives and a player that thinks he is fireproof because of it. If he continues the way he is, a few more results like yesterday, more supporters realising what is happening to the team because of it, will cause him and maybe his sponser to start taking real stick from fed up supporters.

This is not an anti McGoldrick thread. It is a criticism of the way he is ignoring his responsibilities. There is no question that he has various talents. His ignoring that he must play predominantly out to in from the line, when picked as one of the two wide men, is fundamental to the system breaking down, reducing passing options and exposing the right side of the defence. Against Norwich he did OK, against Coventry he was almost never there, but one of the times he was there he had our best chance. It's not hindsight to see a player bust a gut to get into a tap in situation and be ignored as McGoldrick ignored Pekart. At the start of the season JP and MW set down fundamental principles, two wide men was one of them. How can the system survive if one player refuses to play in the asigned position because he wants to play up the middle. Until he puts the team ethic first he should be left out and told why. I happen to know who Weston's sources are, they are absolutely on the inside. The Lowe rumour is more than that.

And there you have it!
-
Shellshocked?
-
He tends to miss-hit, or scuff a lot of shots. He should have been taken off several times this season for poor performances, but it appears anybody but McGoldrick is taken off.
-
I said he can play wide, because I've seen him do it. He was disciplined against Norwich and provided width and cover. Yesterday he didn't. If he is picked to play wide, he has to play there and not play centrally when he feels like it, as he did yesterday. If he is not going to play in his assigned position, he should be left out.
-
Against Norwich he held the width and the whole team was better for it. Against Coventry he didn't. The manager is at fault here. Either a player plays as picked, or is taken off when he fails to play as part of the team. McGoldrick plays for himself and his contribution to the team is poor.
-
It's not a bit, it is all the time, he just doesn't play where he is picked. Either he plays where he is picked or he doesn't play at all. If he doesn't think he can play wide, which he can, where is he going to play, because he sure as hell isn't good enough at this time to play as a central striker.
-
Kelvin Davies was dire last year. This year he has improved in some areas, distribution, coming for the odd cross, whilst his undoubted shotstopping has been good. If he drops back he will again be criticised McGoldrick in the here and now is causing big problems for us. He is also not scoring regularly or creating regularly. With these players, talking of the future means nothing, they are in the first team and the problems are now.
-
For the second goal Sky highlighted several times and commented on McGoldrick letting the scorer go, whilst appealing for offside with his arm in the air. The first goal was not directly attributable to McGoldrick. He was however in the centre and not wide. His wandering off the line left James continually exposed.
-
Neither will I, but that won't stop McGoldrick getting unmerciful stick if he doesn't change his attitude. The Lowe rumour isn't going to do him any favours in that direction either.
-
Some people have favourites, I don't and criticize weaknesses. McGoldrick's self indulgence is our biggest problem if it exposes even more the defensive weakness of the right back. McGoldrick holding width helps the right back. Yesterday it was the ball inside James that led to, I think three goals. The second was the flicked on throwin from Gunnarson where McGoldrick let his man go.
-
If he doesn't play where he is picked, and leaves the team exposed, passes as a last resort, doesn't mark his assigned opponent, that is a bad attitude and self indulgent.
-
I'm not disagreeing, but the right back has been completely without support. McGoldrick abandoning width and drifting inside is exposing James.
