  1. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-05-10/southampton-fans-player-of-the-season-vote-2018 https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-05-10/southampton-goal-of-the-season-award-1718 In case you hadn't seen, votes for Saints' Player and goal of the season are open until 5.30pm Saturday. I know McCarthy is sticking out for me because of recent heroics playing a huge role in us (probably!) staying up, but it still goes to him for me. Yoshida a close second. Can't see past Boufal for the goal against West Brom. It still gets better every time I watch it.
  2. I can see us sticking with something similar to the current design. Stripes don't work so well with the rules meaning striped backs are banned.
  3. That's their highest finishing position since they got relegated from the Championship in 2011/12. It's also lower than Saints have finished since 1958/59.
  4. Yeah, our treatment by the ref there certainly wasn't consistent with what normally happens.
  5. Fair play, wasn't the best football on display, but they fought for that one.
  6. This is almost like a replay of us vs Leeds in the Championship promotion season.
  7. We've had better. Avoiding bottom at Christmas on goal difference (back when it was an unbroken curse), before going on to avoid relegation on the last day (I think) comes to mind. These last few games and results have given us a bloody good escape this time though.
  8. It's not often I can claim any sort of foresight with football, so I'll take it where I can lol.
  9. Hughes is the exact manager these players needed to get them playing and get them over the line. He's done a fantastic job. He's earned a new longer deal, no doubt. I do have some slight reservations with what has tended to happen to teams he's been at for a while, but at Saints the manager is just part of an entire recruiting team. If Hughes can work with that and we can build him a good team to work with, he might just be a perfect fit here.
  10. Huh, so they did... had completely forgotten that one, good knowledge Still, the point stands, West Ham are always one of the teams I look for us to finish above.
  11. Right. Let's go for this one, beat a Man City team already on the beach, and continue our run of finishing above West Ham every season since the promotion season.
  12. Realistically it's too soon. That said I'd be more than happy to see him as an option for England on what we've seen from him since he broke into the side.

  14. Difficult to comprehend how much there was riding on that win today. Not just the game, but the win. We've just about got it with a scrappy unlikely goal after an absolutely world class save more or less kept us in it... could so easily have been a different outcome. Football. Bloody Hell.
  15. I literally can't remember being that nervous for a game before. Absolutely shattered now!
  16. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in actually being the team that's finally ended West Brom's hope.
  17. That's not a very high bar!
  18. Oh give it a rest. Not even the referee's solidarity union cheerleader Graham Poll was trying to defend this one.
  19. Might turn out to be a blessing in disguise when we're looking back on it. I like the chances of a Southampton trying to win against Swansea better than the chances of a Southampton thinking a draw against them might be enough.
  20. Unless we get really tonked by Man City, in which case it's possible a win against Swansea might not be enough.
  21. If there's one team worse off than us at the moment, it's Swansea. I'm actually sat here thinking we should win this one, even the state we're in this season.
  22. So, because it shouldn't have ****ed us over, it's ok that the ref actually ****ed us over? Have I got that right?
  23. You're not really going to try and defend the ref today are you?
