Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Tommy Mulgrew replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
I believe we can safely say that he (JV) is not Maradonna with the big boobies. -
If we buy any CB from Barca it should be Mina, not Marlon. He certainly knows how to keep Sterling in his pocket! A beast of a defender, tall, positionally astute, a good reader of the game and header of the ball in both penalty areas and takes no prisoners. Oh, and can shrug off a groin injury. What's not to like?

The BBC article has these stats: Southampton 2016-17 Liverpool 2017-18 Minutes Played 1854 360 Distance per 90 mins (km) 8.3 9.2 Sprints per 90 mins 30.2 34 I copied and pasted that and cannot space it our properly but it pretty clearly shows that, albeit after only a few games for 'pool, he has covered vastly more ground than in 2016 and 2017 for us. The difference is surely highly significant. Replicate that difference throughout the team and no wonder we are struggling.
-
Pathetic negative tactics after we scored; we should have gone all out to score a second and a third while we had Palarse on the rack. Only when we were behind did MP think we should attack. And then he took off our midfield dynamo (PH, not JWP!) and put on Davis, who is lightweight at this level when full-on attack is a priority. We got what we deserved: nothing and only goal difference separates us from the relegation spots. We are dropping like a stone and look like we are in real trouble. Totally inept.
-
Harry Wilson soon to be available from 'pool? Young, Welsh, winger/midfielder, fast, creates chances and even scores a few!
-
Cuco carried off after falling heavily because of a foul by an oppo player backing into him. Nasty injury apparently: didn't move for six minutes apparently. Wish him good luck and a speedy recovery.
-
BSS and Jose are right: no stream.
-
see my post 1297. i;m just about to select the vipbox.tv feed.
-
vipbox.tv (not vipbpx.me or vipbox.nu, which are both a bit dodgy, the latter more than a bit!) worked for me well last year and so far this year. It has a section for soccer and all you need do is select the right match, pick stream 2 or stream 3 and get rid of the overlays and unwanted bits that inevitably pop-up . No buffering at all on Saturday and lasted for the whole match in good quality sound and vision. I intend using it for the rest of the season when necessary. No payment necessary.

Jemima looks to have a lot of promise; does anyone know why Juve sold him to us instead of keeping him to develop in Italy?
-
"me"!: fastest goal at the Dell, slowest midfield dynamo of the 60s and hardly ever scored again over several seasons but always seemed to play. Runners-up: Hurlock, McGrath, Walker, Dennis, Kirby, Campbell Forsyth and too many others to mention More recently: Ostlund, Cuco, the holy goalie and Guly. Of the present team, it's got to be Yoshida

Beat MU in the EFL Cup Final and Rashford will want to join such a successful club that plays plenty of young players! (Press reports that he wants more game-time than Utd are giving him.)
-
If he keeps up his goal-scoring progression, Barry will score three in his third game for us. MU will have to score four to win. Sadly, that could easily happen. But with our extra desire to win something, anything, versus United's comparative lack of real interest in the EFL Cup Final, it definitely WILL NOT. COYR

I've noted the reference in post 123 to Ruben Semedo and can see echos of VVD in his play. Nelson Semedo, who plays RB or RM for Benfica and is only 23, looks like a Saints-type player, too. "Are they by chance related?"!
-
Martina Man of the First Half!
-
I agree he was brilliant but so was Baumgartlinger. Either, or even both, CDAJFU.
-
How possible would Baumgartlinger be as a DM along with Romeu? He was excellent tonight. (I know nothing about his age, availabillity or club.)
-
It has to be Keane and the rest of the United team who mocked us and our players after defeating us and sending us down into the Championship. Disgusting attitude that made clear just what excrement they were. Much worse than any incidents in playing time that I recall. Supporters of a club that fielded Kirby, Walker, McGrath, Dennis et al can hardly complain about rough play against us.
-
We need to play like L'pool did tonight: effort, endeavour, commitment, bossing the midfield and going for goal whenever possible. Judas had a great game and was key to the victory. We need someone to play that role here. When we play our remaining games we need to play just like that, not like our limp-wristed display yesterday. Starting against Sunderland and continuing past City to Palace. And next year, too.
-
Creativity is not the only thing that we lack: mental strength and desire to win at almost any cost are what's lacking. Tonight,we were out-thought, out-fought, out-dived, out-scored and out-defended by Bournemouth. We were shockingly inept and deservedly lost. Neither free kick that led to a goal should have been given. No "tiger" at all from our players; didn't anyone tell them that it was a south-coast derby? We'll certainly have to buck up our ideas before Saturday. IMO, if we lose to Fat Sam, that will be the end of our season. Get a grip lads and back to winning ways. Long likely to be fit for Sunderland but Austin out for several weeks. And a fair deal from the ref always helps. (Why are the post-match threads closed?)
-
I've watched a replay and cannot see any foul by Fonte leading to the goal. He did stick his foot back but nowhere near the player and mote to try to stop the ball. A poor decision to give the free kick. Let's see how our enhanced midfield dictate the play in the second half.
-
I believe that Surman is the only non-defender to play every minute of EPL games so far this season. Will be interested to see how he gets on against our creative force. And whether Artur plays a blinder or gifts us the win. At least we don't have Lallana to take our penalty tonight.

Southampton vs Chelsea Post Match Throw away
Tommy Mulgrew replied to Secret Site Agent's topic in The Saints
Romeu MoM; Classy v good. Davis (except for one covering tackle in our pen area), Targett and Pelle contributed little. FF could have saved both goals. Ultimately beaten by a better team but we gave them too much space just outside our pen area. But they are a bunch of cheaters. Mane and JWP should have been on earlier and Pelle not at all. Let's hope for wins against Bournemouth and Sunderland. -
Although Ramirez is starring for Boro, Gaston plays in goal for Morton and kept a clean sheet a couple of days ago. What a versatile player! We obviously played him in the wrong position.
-
On the Shed, Chelsea supporters are mainly expecting this match to be a draw; one even thinks we shall win and a couple Chelsea will win. They are fearful of our form and Chelsea's inability to find real momentum in the League. In comparison, we on this forum are very optimistic. Let's hope we're right!
