There's legal and then there's enforced...

I think with cocaine in particular, the production process and chain of supply is so unethical and inhumane that legalisation is the only way out. And yes it does turn people into whanqers, but booze affects a lot of people that way too. And if you believe, as I do, that government has no business regulating what you can and can't use to stimulate your body, then you can't really get squeamish about it.

Gould's Book Of Fish, by Richard Flanagan. It's got everything, action, adventure, romance, violent buggery and pretty pictures of fish. That or East of Eden, by John Steinbeck. But there's no bumsex in that one.

W00T!! Another terrific display from Amon Duul III, marred only by a horror challenge on my jinking-dinking winger that puts him out for a month. Some JCL has signed up in my division and been gifted the undefeated bot team at the top of the table. Stupid bum heads. Can't quite work out why, in the face of a 6 game winning streak and a heart thumping late surge for promotion, the sponsors are still so angry with me.

Woohoo! I forgot about this thread. Been reading loads of good (plus some rubbish) books recently. The best of them being... Illywhacker, by Peter Carey - A 20th century history of Australia as told by a 139-year-old professional bull-sh1tter. Basically a licence to print money for someone as good with a yarn as Carey. All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque - Probably the best book about war I've come across. The German trenches in WWI and the gradual disillusionment of idealistic youth, but leavened with enough irony to keep it poignant and not a drudge. Memories of my Melancholy Whores, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - A short and beautiful love-letter to old age.

Please will you watch me?

Ha! Same thing happened to me. Switched to a fancy continental 4-3-3 for yesterday's friendly, shipped 7 (SEVEN) goals and lost my sub keeper for 4 (FOUR) weeks. I won't be trying that in the league for a while yet...

+1 I walked along the South Downs Way (Beachy Head to Winchester) a couple of years ago. It's some of the most beautiful landscape in the country and thoroughly deserving of special protection.

I've just made a trouser pudding.

Dress as a sexual lady and fool him into a rough bumming.

Another thumping win for Amon Duul III this weekend, but my star winger got red carded. Turns out my calculations weren't correct. It's still mathematically possible for me to be promoted, but it's going to take some freakishly poor results from the team in second, while I attempt to stifle the cries of the upstart n00b below me. I fully intend to take charge of my youth team next season, if only because I don't feel I'm wasting enough time on the game...

Halfway through the first series now and substantially hooked. Has anyone read this book?

Many of us are scared of the main board.

As I understand it, the documentary was going to be about sons living in the shadow of brilliant fathers, using the Cloughs as the chief example. Then it got rushed to completion as a standard biography, to ride the wave of current interest. At least that's what Mark Lawson said on Front Row. That would explain a slight lack of thoroughness.

Man, I wish there was a law against that phrase. A teacher at my old school was accused of some very unseemly things. He was eventually cleared but not before his life was destroyed to the extent that he killed himself. Not that I'm making any comment about this case, which I know nothing about.

I just read on Wikipedia that they met when their respective groups were competing in a battle of the bands, which turned into a gangland shootout. They took shelter in the same elevator. Fate is a funky sorceress.

Yeah, 3-0 wasn't too bad. Really it was a good chance to give a run out to the keeper I just hoiked out of the youth team. Otherwise it just confirmed that I've got 4 or 5 squad players that really won't cut it. I joined the league about four matches in, matches which my electronic predecessor (e-decessor?) managed to lose by about 20 goals to nil. Since then I've won every game and am comfortably third, but there's an unassailable margin to be overhauled to the promotion places. So I've been stretching the budget for quality youngsters in key positions, hopefully next season will be a goal bespangled carnival of victory.

Well, at least I've learnt a few things about my second string...

Thanks for accepting my challenge, Iowsaintsfan. See you at Stain Road.

It covered the story of Rough Trade shop and record label.

You also managed to break two of my better players If I'd been in charge of this team from the start of the season, we would be walking VII.552. All good experience though, and I'm starting to get the hang of the transfer market...
