Erk! It looked promising for just a few moments (i.e. the interval) but they're being battered now.

Ha! Nailed on romp it is! 3 games, 3 wins, +18 goal difference. The rest of the season is a formality. Far more competetive (and fun) has been taking charge of my youth team, Neu 74. To start with you've just got a bunch of local kids, whose skills or lack of are completely unidentified. You're basically starting from scratch, playing them in as many different positions as possible to find out if any of them are actually any good at football at all. Got pummelled in my first match (against a ruddy skate!) but it's a curvy learning rollercoaster.

No, the second one was from the BBC.

Then I misunderstood you. And there was also a zoo. But that was terrible.

Ooh, I love that one. There's some crazy atmosphere going on there that's almost more important than the story. I was reminded of it when I watched The New World, which has a similar 'approaching the place of creation' air about it.

You know they built another cricket ground? It's quite a good one.

Amon Duul III got off to a thumping start, 4-0 against what at k.o. was the only other human team. Now three others have joined, so my possibly not a nailed on romp to the title but a good start.

That's a rather damning (pardon me) way of saying it's a fictionalised account, which is all it ever claims to be. It is a novel after all, not reportage.

It's been the wrong time of year to hold a series of international matches full stop. Nobody could have guaranteed decent weather at any venue (it's rained down here most of the last week too). Remind me not to invite the OP to any BBQs though.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/may/20/former-cricketer-chris-lewis-guilty-drugs Plus a couple of good recent articles from F365: http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8742_5316880,00.html http://www.football365.com/john_nicholson/0,17033,8746_5336505,00.html Are famous people role models? Should we expect anything different from people because they're paid a lot of money? Debate please.

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11768 Is this supposed to be ironic? They know what that phrase means?

The money's the only issue. I've put myself in a bit of debt bolstering the squad. But I did make one signing specifically to enable me to promote one of the senior players to coach. Managing the Youth Team is the big one though. It's got to be better than throwing money at a system and getting no decent players out of it. Anyone on here do this successfully? Anyhow, got absolutely spanked last night by a team 2 flights above me. Took the lead but only really by accident. So concentrating on the league...

Oooeeeooo I'm looking forward to this! I've spent big in the window and I'm giving some new lads a run out tonight. 2 key decisions remain before start of season proper: Do I change my coach (he's rubbish but seemed sufficient last season)? And do I manage my own youth team? I think the answers are 'no' and 'yes' respectively, but I'll let tomorrow decide. Bring on tonight's humiliation... :smt041

Fry fiddles (not in the corrupt sense) while Rome burns

Just goes to show the parochial attitude of some on here that they can make jokes about masturbation while the historic city of Rome is destroyed by flames  -
Can I remind you that this is The Lounge.
