  1. Of course, but they cost a fraction if what we are paying now and were far better players
  2. It doesn't matter how much money you have to spend if you are going to waste it. In league one with less money we bought the likes of Fonte and Lambert. We are now spending many times more money on the likes of Vestergard and Adams, players not fit to tie the aforementioned's bootlaces. If you were owner wouldn't you be tempted to say - see what you can do with less
  3. Sunderland is always brought up but don't forget he turned down Man U to stay with us.
  4. To be fair we've not been too bad away from home (comparatively speaking) Arsenal to win 2-0
  5. Why is it so difficult for Saints fans to understand that if you invest in good players you do well, and if you invest in bad players you do badly. People are to blame but it's not an exact science and a lot of those people have left. We've invested plenty - we invest in a new manager every season for f*ck sake. Only a complete mug would dig an even bigger hole. Saints fans may want a nice friendly, cuddly owner that's going to tell them everything is going to be ok but sometimes a period of tough love is what is required.
  6. Lets get rid of Puel - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Pelligrino - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Hughes - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Reed - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Krueger - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Wilson - Things will be so much better Lets get rid of Gao - Oh sh*t we have no club

  8. Jeremy Wilson says cebtre back. Sjy think it's Kevin Danso
  9. Mike Channon. It wasn't until he scored 2 late goals to give us a much needed win against Everton that he changed my and a lot of other peoples minds
  10. I expect the club to have good seasons when they have a good Manager, the Academy produces a cluster of premier league class players, we make good signings and keep them for a while. I believe this can happen and when it does the top 6 and cups become possible. On the other hand realistically that is not possible all of the time and there will be times like the last 2 seasons when we will have to batten down the hatches and fight for survival. Mostly we will be somewhere in between. Investing enough to guarantee success is open to very few and clubs outside the top 6 attempting that approach still need other factors to go in their favour or they can become very unstuck indeed.
  11. In the 60 odd years that I've been watching Saints the Forest and Liverpool games are the only ones I can remember us coming from 3 down. Against us there were the cup games at Watford over 2 legs and Tranmere. I think there was another league game at the Dell in Alan Ball's time but I can't remember who it was against, possibly Spurs. To see it twice in 2 nights is remarkable.
  12. He will leave eventually, we will sign good players and they will leave eventually, we will go down eventually as only a privileged few can avoid it. With football these days all you can do is live in the moment. If you've won your last game everything is wonderful and the players should all be playing for their countries. Lose your last game and everyone at the club should be replaced.
  13. We always were and always will be a small club. You must know that surely?
  14. Only 5 whew. 1. Terry Paine v Charlton 1966. In my view the most important goal ever scored at the Dell. 2. Bobby Stokes Wembley. The most important goal ever. 3.Paul Gilchrist semi final. It made all our dreams come true. 4.Steve Moran at Pompey. The most satisfying goal ever. 5.MLT last game at Dell. Most emotional goal ever. Honourable mention to several dozen more from David Burnside to Gabby.
  15. Exactly. It's a team game, you have to find the combinations that work. Long and Hojbjurg would be 2 of the 1st names on my teamsheet and fit the show ponies around them.
  16. They say football is more skillful now but tackling is a skill, and no one can tackle now like Cliff did. RIP
  17. Last season we achieved what many of you said would be impossible and stayed in the Premier league, a status that major cities such as Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Nottingham and Derby can only dream about. Statistically we are probably due to go down this season so although this forum is there for people to vent their frustations perhaps we should sometimes appreciate what we've got because it won't be there for ever.
  18. Sounds to me like it's agreed but Hughes has gone on a well earned holiday before getting stuck in. Still with Saints it's never done until it's announced.
  19. We hardly ever start a season with the Manager we thought we would at the end of the previous one ( maybe a bit of an exaggeration but it seems like it)
  20. You mean the man that taught Pellegrino?
  21. I believe Hughes does have the potential to be a top manager if he gets the right backing. He has the respect of the players and the fans, knows the premier league and is tactically astute, has the players playing as a team and to their ability. What he can't do is get Charlie Austin to score a goal like Jesus did on Sunday. To get towards the top of the league requires more than a good manager - it requires such things as investment, good recruitment and youth development.
  22. Didn't have the black box did he?
  23. There's no danger. I'd bring in the kids. There's a young lad called Park and another called Buss that would be ideal for this game.
  24. You do know this site is for the blame game not the beautiful game? There are so many factors that are involved in getting a good Manager. It's very much horses for courses. Some of our best have been aweful elsewhere - Lawrie, Ball, Hoddle, Strachen, Adkins, Koeman are not held in great regard elsewhere.
  25. We've always had dud transfers (Gaston, Osvaldo) mixed in with some some great ones. It's always a gamble especially when buying from abroad as to whether they will fit in and some players need time (Cedric, Romeu)- is Lemina going to be a great signing or not ? Can we afford to give Boufal more time? Recently we've found it harder to hit the jackpot so I would like us to concentrate on more on lower league players who might cost more but might be more reliable.
