You are right of course. It is all about the results and 3 points. In the same way, every year we avoid relegation is happiness. If we go down, misery until the next season and the hope of promotion. The Cup games, especially in this day and age are merely a side show.

You are right and a club like Southampton is never far from a relegation scrap. I have been astounded at both the arrogance and complacency of the vocal minority over this subject. I am afraid it is all too reminiscent of the Spring of 2004 when the vocal few blocked the appointment of Hoddle.

I am not surprised. No club can be complacent. Our main objective is almost certainly to 'stay up', any failure to do that would be extremely costly. Exactly ! We need to concentrate on reaching 40 points. Had we been knocked out of the League Cup earlier we may not have suffered the thrashing from Liverpool that led us to lose our confidence and ultimately two points against Villa.

You have a good point, but to build from the Academy may mean we have to drop down a division for a couple of seasons. We can then come back up, have a few good seasons, sell our young players for a handsome profit and gradually drop down again. Then start the cycle again. Sort of a 'yoyo' policy on along piece of string.
