  1. Think back to the 1990's and then you might realise that for some of us finishing 6th is fantastic and beyond dreams. Just being in the top league is good enough for me.
  2. I am not suggesting foulplay. Not at all. However, I am suggesting that the best way to maximise profits is to spend as little as possible if you are confident that you can stay up, even if that means 17th. It seems that running a tight ship is the priority of the board and who can blame after we nearly went bankrupt a few years ago. Under this policy we could easily cope with relegation and a good chance of coming back up. I call this a 'sustainable' programme which after all was the model we were all told the club would follow.
  3. Back to the topic of new signings. If we don't get a few more key players in, who have obvious pedigree and track record then all I can say id the Board are 'playing with fire'. Hope they are right in thinking we can stay up with the current squad. Risky but very profitable if we finish between 17th and 14th.
  4. A lot of very sensible fans feel the same. The silent and realistic majority. I don't blame some fans for their lofty ambitions for the club. Their enthusiasm gets the better of their judgement. However, to call supporters who have more realistic ambitions as 'bedwetters' and trolls is insulting to the silent majority.
  5. You can say what you like. We finished 6th last season ! 6th !!!! Think about it . We finished above West Ham, Liverpool and even Chelsea. We will be talking about last season for many decades to come. We will be remembered for last season along with Leicester City for quite a few years and footnoted in many a 'Shoot !' annual. I would say that we will judge all future seasons by last years golden season.
  6. I would be happy if we only lose by two goals.
  7. As long as there are three teams weaker than Saints and wit a bit of luck we should achieve the boards main objective of staying up. It will be made easier by an early exit from Europe and avoiding any wasteful Cup runs.
  8. Listen, at the end of the day most people would accept staying up as acceptable. Relegation would be hard but not a disaster as I think the board are unlikely to put us in a position where we have spent too heavily to stay up. IMO we are 'chancing' it this season, with the view of just staying up as being acceptable.
  9. Well we have had a successful summer profit wise, which I think is important. Ambition ? If we finish 17th the board will be pleased. Keep the gravy train going.
  10. Not too late to sell at least two of them before close of window
  11. I agree and the rumours about Fonte are making me even more pessimistic. We have lost three very important players and not replace them with players of equal calibre. I think we will do well to stay clear of relegation this year.
  12. What is our ambition though ? I think the board are happy just to finish above the bottom three. Anything above 17th is a bonus. If we don't sign a few more quality players I think we will be relegated this season.
  13. I would say that the board are showing 'casual indifference' at the very least.
  14. 15th is more optimistic than some years. The more I think about the prospects for saints this season, the more gloomy I get. Still, Hull will surely struggle.
  15. I think we are in for a hard season. Hopefully there are three worse teams than us. I would settle for 15th this year.
  16. Unless we get another top notch striker and winger we will be in big trouble. Mark my words.
  17. Very good. We now need another quality striker and a back up goalkeeper. We need to push the boat out on the striker front. How about making a bid for Vardy or that Everton chappie ?
  18. I think this year will be all about consolidation for saints this year. Lets see if we strengthen the team before making predictions.
  19. Relegation for a club like Southampton is always a few poor results, bad luck or injuries away. If we do get relegated I think we have a well run club that will bounce back quickly.
  20. I have been saying that for years. Oh, and when he loses the argument he turns to personal insults. Very predictable.
  21. Could well be. However, if we go down with a fat bank balance we can yoyo back up !
  22. Say what you like, but it looks like we are going to chance it.
  23. We are always slow off the mark in the summer transfer market. Hate to say it, but I think we will be fighting relegation this year.
  24. Looks like a relegation scrap on the way.
