We could have matched the amount Everton are paying RK, but we chose not too. We have obviously made a judgement on his worth and would prefer to look for someone new. This deal was done on Saints terms not Everton's. They think they are a big club but the world knows that they are and have been in the shadow of Liverpool FC since the mid 1970's. In the words of the late Bill Shankly, 'there are only two clubs in Liverpool, Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves'.

If we pay £3million, which is what we were going to pay RK, we could pay this to Pellegrini. Also with our compensation money we could offer something like a £2 million golden hello !

It's a blow. However, the Board need to react by getting in a really top high profile experienced manager. That will sweeten the bitter taste and more importantly steady the ship and stop the exodus of players. My concern is the 'albatross' of a European campaign when we should be concentrating on our league status.

Well, as looks likely and RK goes it is a blow for the club. Reminds me of when Hoddle left for Spurs. I hope we appoint a decent manager in return, there are a few out there.
