Yeah the only defence I've seen of this ludicrous approach is that people from mainland Spain might travel to the Islands and then travel over here. I think it's just a lame excuse for not having the ability or willingness to amend a form to be able to differentiate and identify a traveller from the mainland to one from an Island thousands of miles away but part of the same country.
