  1. I lick my fingers clean. Unfortunately this makes me as stiff as a board so I then have to go into a cubical to work the poison out. I go to lick my hands clean and it happens again. This usually happens about 5 or 6 times before just air comes out of the old chap and I'm free to leave the toilets. This gets me no end of funny looks and sarcy comments at work. So now I just p1ss my pants and start crying, its easier for everybody that way.
  2. Life on Mars should have been terrible but low! it was incredible, the best British tv show in years and years. Every episode had big laughs and at least one 'shiver down the spine' moment and John Simm was so so good. The Blair/Brown swingers party still makes me giggle. I started watching Ashes to Ashes but it was just rubbish. Everything that LoM did effertlessly, A2A just tries waaaayyyyy too hard and ends up missing the target 9 times out of 10 (I'm being very generous). Its souless, humourless, chill-less, Simm-less and me-less. I watched Edge of Darkness on DVD the other day, classic 80s environmental/political thriller. Its mostly amazing, mad dad talking to his dead daughter as he stumbles toward a nasty case of radiation poisening. And then in the last episode it turns in a poor mans James Bond (it was directed to Martin Cambell who did Golden Eye and one of the new ones). Its worth a pop though. I'm gonna give State of Play a go as well (featuring our main man John Simm again), now the Hollywood film version has come out.
  3. Probably the biggest threat to the 'reform' movement is the media going too far the other way, kettling people into a position of feeling sorry for the police. The female protester running into the arms of Max Clifford leaves a very bad taste in the mouth, almost as bad as the footage of her being slapped and then struck. The police must have the right to use force when appropraite, but they cant be allowed to resort to punishing the majority for the actions of a tiny minority. And this goes the other way too, we can't deem all coppers as ****s just because a handful got slap-happy. As we've all seen in the Isreal/Palastine conflict, collective punishment just makes a bad situation much much worse.
  4. Lest we forget that many of the rights (rights that have elevated us from the role of worker-drones) that we take for granted in this day and age were not just handed down to us. People had to wrestle them out of the hands of the powers-that-be, through peaceful and violent protest, resorting to guerilla warfare/terrorist tactics, and many people had to die for this. And I have no doubt that the blinkered/reactionary idiots of the time enjoyed slating their actions, labelling them anarchist scum and chearing on the police as they cracked heads. If we loose the right to protest (or at least have to expect to be seriously assualted if we dare speak out) then free speech will be next. And if you approve of the police tactics employed here then don't be surprised that if in the future you, or members of your family, go to a football game and find yourself kettled for 8 hours with no food or water. And as you sit there, p1ssing in your pants, don’t forget the role you played in allowing this to happen. As my man Vass said over the week-end, the police are our servants, not our masters.
  5. Very sad news. I liked the film version of Crash, but then again I've not read the book yet. Empire of the Sun was a great read but its his urban sci-fi that I like the most, especially his short stories which have managed to stick in my drug ravaged brain.
  6. watch Top Gear whilst crying and w@nking
  7. He shoots, he scores! :smt005
  8. Kraftwerk - Pocket Calculator LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge a couple of stonkers :smt119
  9. So the police discover that the 'big brother' society, beit the mirriad of CCTV cameras or the extensive use of camera phones, cuts both ways. I'm delighted the guy in question is now facing manslaugter charges, but lets not see the lowely ploice officers face the whole blame if they were following orders from on high. And hopefully everyone involved in the disgraceful attempt to cover-up what happened will also be brought to justice. Shame on the media that gathered around the couple of idiots smashing windows and somehow missed the acts of police brutality, thank god for the members of the public for capturing these images on digital cameras. Let us be in no doubt that without these clips, and facilities like youtube, none of this would have come to light. And finally, lets not forget that the new law that now bans people from photographing police officers was brought in to prevent exactly this happening. The police are at a fork in the road, they can either use this to change how they police big protests and carry themselves in general, or make sure that absolutely no footage like this ever sees the light of day, which is what happened during the social unrest in Burma. One way leads to a civilised society, the other to a facistic police state.
  10. The first land battle in WW1 took place in Basra, as the British defended "their" oil reserves from them Germans. I just thought I'd share that. What i dont get is this... why the phuq don't those enormous tankers, you see parked just off Fawley, sink to the bottom of the solent? You can bang on about water displacement till the ucnting cow come home and it will make no difference. They shouldn't float, IT’S A CONSPIRACY, PEOPLE! to paraphrase Bill Hicks and Chuck Palahniuk, birth is an much of a miracle as someone eating a sandwich and then having a $hit later, the true miracle is death, how can it be that one minute you have a living entity with hopes, fears and a favourite brand of toothpaste and then a second later they become an inanimate object, a rotting lump of meat. Whats that all about?
  11. I've gotta disagree, both were media events which saw an almost hilarious amount of mis-placed empathy and sickening grief one-up-manship which alienated a lot of people. Both were being savaged by the press before they died (or in Jade's case, discovered she was dieing) and both were turned into latter day saints. I'd much rather the British be an emotionally repressed nation than the frankly embarrasing outbursts that greeted Di's and Jade's deaths. Of the two of them, Jade was a more interesting character, but neither were worthy of a fraction of the attention they got.
  12. Yeah, i've stopped playing friendlies abroad, spending thousands just to get roundly beaten.
  13. you're probably right, the closest i've come to having any respect for the guy was after his appearances on QI where he did well, winning one of them i think. this lead to a moment of confusion but, thank god, clarkson is guaranted to come out with something that only a daily mail colomnist could say and normal service is resumed. phew, just for a minute i lost myself.
  14. This is the real tragedy, many of those who were crushed and passed out would have survived if they'd been placed in the recovery position once they reached the pitch. Also, the mentality of 'bloody scousers, they deserved it' seemed to steam from the how the police acted on the day and is still alive and well on this thread.
  15. He may know about cars but when it comes to living in the 21st Century, he is truely ignorant. Xenophobia, sexism, wearing trousers way too small for his huge belly, liking ****** weak wine-bar-rock, all these things have no place in our brave new world. Some people love him and good for them, but to me he represents all that is wrong with this country, the small-minded 'little englander', happy to deny climate change because, as he's openly admitted many times, he doesn't see why he should walk anywhere. Well, thanks for playing a key role in killing the planet, you annoying, and yes, arrogant ****. Hammond is quite likable, whilst the other one is the blandest being alive, undoubtedly created in a petree dish somewhere.
  16. When i first read his comments i thought, well thats like a member of the organ grinder union beating the shyte out of the monkey. but parky was really saying was 'if your working class, you must stride to become middle class in order to succeed in the media, you have to better yourself like i did. and work damn hard etc'. And in his day, that was clearly the case. But now its changing, you don't need the cut-glass bbc accent any more. And Jade is the icon of the ordinary person who became a star for being who she is. Parky, clearly resents this, as a lot of people do, and a part of it is generational. so in a sense, his age is pretty important. hopefully without sounding to cold, for the spectator its been a much more interesting media event than the diana thing, which was just a painfully dry w@nk to seemingly endless and utterly empty grief-porn.
  17. the sinistry of mound enjoyed their biggest win of the season, 9-0 against an average human-team, which could be attributed to the new coach. my usual star player had an off game and the whole team responded by playing out of their skins. we're the form team in the league and the top side is having a shocker, they drew 1-1 with a bot-team cutting their lead to one point (and a healthy goal difference). if they slip up again the title is there for the taking
  18. the only thing i'd disagree with is this point. i'd say that she was comfortable with her level of intelligence (clearly improving yourself through education wasn't a major aim of hers) but it was the media and public that revelled in it. if you can, watch charlie brooker's newswipe episode 2, he's been incredibly level-headed in regard to jade for ages (which surprised me) and identifies the real culprit in the whole sorry story, not big brother but the tragically dumbed down post-diana news media. their coverage has alienated alot of people, and their reaction on forums like this one has alienated and radicalised everyone else. but hats off for the mature way she has been discussed by the majority on this thread. it can be heart-warming to see people exchange views and agree to disagree without resorting to ugliness. :smt052
  19. The thought provoking direction and gripping character development of......................oh. i know, a cheap shot, but Bond films are essentially, you know, for kids. I loved them as a child but now the vast majority of them are as embarrassing and have aged as badly as carry-on films. even with the recent 'gritty' re-booting, the bourne films wipe the floor with bond, and in Paul Greengrass we have a British director, capable of satisfying and challanging audiences.
  20. Whats the difference between cancer and a cow? Max Clifford can't milk a cow
  21. i fired the worst of my squad, leaving me with 22 players, four of whom are dross but i'm in no position to replace them with anything other than youth team players at the mo. does anyone know how much cash we get for being promoted? £100k would do nicely.
  22. And there's nothing like imminate death, or extreme boredom, to make someone re-evaulate their spiritual beliefs and take an interest in all thing Gody.
  23. thats pretty much perfect i've been waking up to 'Real Emotional Trash' by Stephen Malkmus, his post-pavement album yet. had a listen to 'Happiness' by Fridge on spotify last night, that was rather lovely too.
  24. I have no beef with the police whatsoever. I've been cautioned a couple of times for minor offences (fly-posting, having small amounts of green on me) and each time they were friendly and courteous and so was I, and it was dealt with quickly and cleanly. And comparing the actions of the British police to the other police forces which have come crashing down on the G8/G20 protests, often with jaw-dropping brutality, this issue of the guy getting caught in the middle of it and dieing of a heart attack is quite a minor incident. BUT… Once again the MET is caught being economical with the truth, until it is dragged out of them. They make a big play of 'we tried to save his life as we had missiles raining down on us' which may have been true (I wouldn't dream of justifying morons throwing anything at someone trying to save a life) but they ommitted the key fact that at least one police officer assulted the man before he suffered his heart attack. That’s man-slaughter and I hope they throw the guilty policeman to the firckin wolves. But they won't, they'll close ranks and maybe, if they have to, pension off a senior officer, and nothing wil have changed.
  25. That was fun, the sinistry of mound and netley central drew 4-4, with my swedish wonder-kid grabbing a last minute equaliser. Shame about my utility man being injured for the next three games, but it meant that my recently promoted youth team player was on the pitch for much longer than planned and didn't do anything to shame himself. my young strikers were pretty quiet though. here's a question for the more experienced players, is it worth splashing out £30,000 or so to upgrade my trainer from weak to inadequate? or save up and spend neartly ten times that much on a good one?
