  1. strange triple bills rock, i had proper flu a will ago and in a fevered haze watched cannibal holocaust, the last temptation of christ and iron man. and they all made perfect sense (man goes into the wilderness, man gets messed up, man kicks arse). i've watched a scanner darkly a couple of time recently, finally understand what's going on and fell strangely under-whelmed. its got cult-classic written all over it and has some sublime moments of writing and film-making, but it somehow adds up to less than the sum of its parts. i kind of loved 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, as much as you can love a gritty fly-on-the-wall portrayal of an illegal abortion in communist-era Romania. but the portrayal of the lead character hooked me from the very start, someone trying to do a good thing in a very bad place. and the abortionist is one of the greatest 'villains' in recent years, veering from chalming, to passive-agressive to utter khunt in a completely believable way. in a sense, its a properly terrifying body-horror film, which barely has a drop of blood in it, and makes its location look like the scariest place on earth. if you've got an open mind to cinema, rent it, put the popcorn on, invite your mates round and enjoy
  2. I hear ya. What your saying is 'how can such a glorious wall of noise end with a fade out when it should truely end with the indie equivalent of an atomic bomb going off'. I know what you mean and I've thought the same thing many times.
  3. Man U - best squad in the world
  4. steamroller by the family cat this song was written by saints fans all about the joy of welcoming the team on to the pitch (excuse the crappy picture quality, you can make out the classic style saints top though) 'and the saints are playing at home today, and the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiints!' (can we lock the thread now please) and as much as i appreciate the effert made by the iffy celtic-rock band by writing a tune, come on, if we played that i'll be on the phone to the FA demanding more points are docked
  5. :smt041:smt029WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, I SAID WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE:smt029:smt041 The mound eased their way into league 6 by beating a bot-team 6-0 and find themselves (for one week only) looking down on everyone else. I've set my sights on finishing forth (and if possible staying in the top four all season), behind the big three but above the 3 bot teams and rubbish human team. We'll get stuffed in the next match and then after that the next three games are against the dross. Whoop whoop!
  6. nice work! i've not heard the gun club since my brief goth shame, and what an amazing tune. always a joy to hear 'what goes on' and 'freak scene', and that fleetwood mac tune sounds like the sabbath. and its my turn next!
  7. wow, if only you could get it to eat europe, and take on little tiny armies.
  8. I'd recommend upgrading the coach if you can afford it, my team definately enjoyed a healthy bounce when the new guy came in. I'm currently deciding whether to scrape the cash togther to upgrade my coach again, or, build a load more fancy seats and push my capacity up to 16,000. the mound crashed out of the cup last night, which was no great surprise, but it was in a particularly gaoling manner. It was all incredibly tight until the last ten minutes when we missed a sitter and then caved in like a cheap pack of cards the only plus points were the attendance (just under 12,000) and one of my spotty herberts got his first ever 3 star rating (so very proud). there's good news though! they've announced the fixture list and three of my first four games are against bot-teams! so, if everything goes to plan we could have 9 points in the bag nice and early. that will make taking hidings off the big boys somewhat easier to swallow (my metaphor's turned wrong). the first game looks like its going to be really really tight, so a draw wouldn't be the end of the world. but if things go badly against the bot-teams, well, that doesn't bare thinking about.
  9. dude, you're well jazz  i got something similar by stockhausen.
  10. I expect to see you showing the rest of us how its done. 'I can feel it, coming in the air tonight...' Thats right! It’s the magical night when hattrick sides all over Britain get dumped out of the cup by a cricket score. I start the new season with a dilema that will probably be a constant theme, how to square up against a 3-4-3 with a midfield packed with 5 star players. The way I see it, I either play it safe and go 4-4-2, or do what most others do and play a 4-5-1, knowing that tonight at least my side's organisation will be all over the shop. Plus, playing one up front at home is asking for trouble, as well we know.
  11. Well, a win is a win, and you can only beat what's in front of you, but I fear that bopara, swann, onions et al will be made to look very ordinary by the aussies.
  12. Featuring the most celebrated quote in the history of cinema, a line that was improvised on the spot by DeNiro. Plus the amazing 'pussy and a .45 scene' with Scorsese playing Travis's inner demon. The making of it sounded nuts, all of them strung out on coke, unable to work out if the events going on around them were part of the film or real nasty stuff going down for real. There's a funny episode of American Dad where they travel back in time and try to get Scorsese off the coke, DeNiro walks off the set and so they re-cast John Wayne as Travis. As a result, no one goes to see the film, the guy who shot Regean doesn't get obsessed with Jody Foster and shoot Regean, who in turn loses the election and the Soviet Union invade the US. Remember kids, some times, for the good of humanity, you've got to do drugs.
  13. Fair play to everyone getting involved and doing this, but... It sounds like really terrible pro-war red-neck US country and western, i felt wrong deep inside and kept expected a reference to sending the filthy towel-head back to his weird freaky god. Nothing about it says Southampton to me. Anyone remember The Family Cat? We should get those guys back to do a tune.
  14. I'm not a third year, but i'm trying to finish my dissertation for my two-year film studies MA (which is currently in its third year). The hand-in is in September, and if its not done yet I get another year to finish it. but i want it finished as i've been working on it for years. The good thing is that as i work at a Uni i get to do it for free, i would have chalked up about £12,000 worth of of education by the time i finish if i was paying. My study is on revenge films which came out in the first five years of the 21st century, from the US, France and the UK, all former Empires and Super-powers, in various states of disrepair. I looked at three modern day westerns which all turned out to about the war on terror (surprise surprise), then three french art-cinema films all about the failure of multicultural relations in Paris, and three British 'kitchen sink' films about the loss of working class communities in impoverished estates and a return to DIY blood feuds of yore :axe:. and i've still got to write the sodding introduction and conclusion. for ages i've been stuck in the place where you do loads of work and there's nothing to show for it, but its starting to take shape before my tired tired eyes and actually sound pretty good. i wouldn't want to be the powers that be once i'm done with them.:smt066
  15. If you go onto Alltid you can compare all the teams in your league for the new season. In tables for ratings and stars i'm in the top four, which bodes well. The top three look really good, and its a scrap for survival amongst the rest.
  16. 258 - 1 100s for Cook and Bopara the windies are very flat though
  17. It shouldn't do for sure, but some MPs don't get paid much, and maybe aren't on corporate boards and really need the expenses system to have somewhere in London that resembles a home. Others don't need to claim expenses on second homes because they've already got fully furnished 2nd, 3rd and 4th homes. And we shouldn't let these loaded MPs make themselves out to be defenders of morality.
  18. Cameron is trying to come out of this whiter than white, but even members of the Torie party are getting sick of this. The main reason Cameron didn't claim dodgy expenses is because he's chuffin minted.
  19. I agree. The fact that they fell all the way top the bottom of league 2, went into admin and seemed dead and buried. Then within a few years they had steadied the ship and went flying back up through the leagues. I'd love them to stay up purely because it would prove that sides (ie saints) can come back from the dead without having millions pumped into them. But saying that, in my experience, Newcatle have the best away fans in the Prem, gracious in victory and defeat, usually happy to have a laugh at themselves.
  20. they've announced the leagues for next season!!! mine doesn't look too bad, only two bot-teams , a couple of really good sides, and a couple that, on alltid at least, look a bit ordinary. going by the div 6 leagues this season, 14 points should be enough to keep you up, so i've set myself the target of 5 wins, 4 of which could come against the bot-teams. i wanna start now!
  21. Good stuff, I enjoyed muchly. I think it hits its stride with Peaches, and then kept me hooked until the end. It was nice to hear Double Vegetation again after many many moons:smt035
  22. No tories would appear on the today programme this morning, despite the chance to turn the screws on Brown. And I think we all know why that is
  23. not working :smt009
  24. Do you often find that racist headlines lighten your day? Lest we forget, some of the people wearing bhurkas in this country are the children or grand-children (or great-great-grandchildren) of men who fought for Britain in WW1 and 2, purely because we were occupying their country at the time. These people deserve your respect too.
  25. Miles Davis - Agharta and Pangaea Two epic live albums, recorded on the same day at his smack-frazzled funk-rock peak. Stephen Malkmus - Real Emotional Trash My fave solo album of his by an alt.country mile.
