We are guilty of being over elaborate. Quick simple first time passing would see us do better than the sideways rubbish and players going down blind alleys. Bertrand must be fed up of busting a gut on the overlap only to see the ball get recycled across the pitch. Three or four times we got the ball into an area where a fizzed pass across the box would have caused real problems for Spurs but opted to play it to the back of the box to no one. This means players are not looking up prior to passing or players are not attacking the box from midfield and are instead ball watching further back.

Ings was making some lovely runs but numbnuts Redmond and show-pony Boufal either couldn’t or wouldn’t play an early ball to him. Massive chance wasted today. Spurs were imploding and we let them off the hook.

Redmond was utterly infuriating today. Ings was making some great runs in behind and this guy just wanted to shilly shally with the ball all match long. This isn’t Portsmouth, you’ve got to be quick and decisive. We had them on the ****ing ropes, we’re looking to go ahead, Redmond hung on to the ball, attack broke down, they broke at pace (wow, novel idea) and scored.

JWP is not a RWB. Spurs exploited this to the full.

If you set up and plan for 4 at the back, why switch the whole formation and tactics based on one injury when you have a RB on the bench? It just doesn’t make any sense.

You want a player that when he comes on, gives the team a lift, a bit of energy. Armstrong comes on and just falls flat, misses a tackle and then gives the ball away. Not good enough at this level.
