Boy we were utterly spoiled in those days. Such a genius. So many times he lit up a drab encounter with a sublime piece of skill. If we were awarded a penalty in those days you could start celebrating straight away before he even took it (Crossley aside).
It would be interesting to see how he would be viewed on here if he was a player in this era. Let's face it, he's the greatest Saint and a sensational player but in some matches he'd barely move, ambling along with his hands inside his long sleeves. I could see a few of our current players giving him "gashton" like nicknames.
