Some of our player obviously aren't the sharpest tools in the box and they don't understand what they've to do. Not because the coach is incapable of explaining it to them but because they're incapable of understanding point. What's he to do ? drop them_oh yeh and replace them with who? the youth team, nah we've already done that. We have a squad of 29 players,about 9 are injured or can't perform every game.Jan has a couple of one trick ponies who can only do one thing and they always gravitate towards that. BWP, Dyer and McGoldrick, Jan said so after the Barnsley game. He has no option but for to play them that all.We have too many games in a short time for the severely limited squad we have that's all. Too true, he's wasted as assistant manager for Northern Ireland. I don't doubt if you look at West Ham's results they're a lot better when he was there than when he wasn't(could be wrong, I haven't looked).

Doubt it actually, you can see similar football on any of the public recreation spaces in and around the city,any old Saturday or Sunday will do. You have to remember in those days players actually stepped up from Sholing Sports and Thorneycroft Athletic to professional sides.Saints A (third side) was a mix of local talent, young apprentices from the club and the occasional player coming back from long term injury. Played in the Hampshire League.I don't doubt that there are a few others on this forum who've put in at least one performance for Southampton A. A lot of the tackles that went down as serious crowd pleasers in the 60's would be straight reds nowadays. The one Lancashire got done for was a ballet step compared to hundreds that thrilled the crowd on a Saturday,week in week out. A player would run and launch himself into a furrow ploughing slide that took out everything in it's path, ball,players, cameramen-whatever that came into his path;Sliding tackles of 15 yards were not extraordinary.Kicked up in the air meant exactly that.

Then again you probably never saw Docker Walker, Cliff Huxford or Tommy Mulgrew. When shankly called us an alehouse team he was not a million miles from the truth. At one time I played a few games with an ageing Tommy Traynor and a slightly less ageing Bobby McClooughlin-they had no skill whatsoever.Sorry to the old guys but if those boyos were still wearing the shirt we'd be down to 8 men after 3 or 4 minutes (so would the others mind you). Aren't being hung out to dry, they're injured for the most part.If we'd have had Davis instead of that joker Bart on Tuesday we might just be less dispirited today.If we'd had Thomas available in defence, if we'd been able to play Euell or Holmes in midfield instead of the trash duo,it might have been so different. If Skacel isn't playing there's a reason,if it was a question of money John wouldn't be playing either. Skacel was in the squad on Tuesday, he didn't play.There must be a reason for that,and I don't think it's got anything to do with money.

Justly. If a striker is crap or a midfield player,well you might get away with it. If a goalkeeper is as dire as I'm led to believe Bart was on Tuesday-you pay cash,it's as certain as death and taxes. Davis has a neck problem that required injections, hopefully he'll be OK for Saturday but if not-well I hope they play Forecast. If our defence started trying to do things differently because they had no confidence whatsoever in Bart-well you can see what happens.

Not if they come from afar. I went to 6 home games and 4 away games last season (and believe me it's quite a trip). Our daughter has joined her brother in the ranks of the higher educated this fall and we have less money. So I'll be down to just 3 or 4 games.

In fact I'd like to see the end of that particular experiment. Cork and Perry in CD,Mills and James as defensive backs. I don't think svensson is working out, chopping and changing to accommodate him isn't a great solution. Settled side is best.

I don't know if anyone has noticed but due to Lge1 and Lge 2 not being concerned with "international stupidity" they only play on Saturdays. One game per week.(I think they start earlier as well by 1 week) .Of course they've had the 3 carling games in midweek, but other than that they have more time between matches.OK for your 'big clubs' with big squads but for the likes of us with a relatively smaller squad and a packet of injuries it definitely gives them an advantage. We'd played 4 games in 10 days on Tuesday and they'd played 3 in 11.

Putting Bart back to his place on the bench is like getting a 3 goal start.From what I was told by a young cousin who lives up that way and went to the match Saints drew 1-1 with Rotherham, Bart lost 2-0. Having said that I don't think he rates Bart very highly and could have a biased view-happens you know.

This is a just point.Our habitual injury jinx is hitting us again. When will it ever stop. Thomas came in and looked half decent (for once) and then disappeared with a longish term injury. Holmes out for at least 2 months, Morgan ? who knows... We have 29 in our first team squad, if we get 7 or 8 injuries and an idiotic 3 match suspension 30 minutes into a professional career, we're down to the really really inexperienced (like Davies) or the abject no hopers like Dyer and BWP. For me there were 2 players to get shot of at all cost last summer, Dyer and BWP, why we didn't beats me.I mean if we're not playing Skacel (who may or may not be up to it) because of money but we're still paying BWP and Dyer it just makes no sense, none whatsoever.I'm not Rasiak's biggest fan but even I'd rather have him in the side than those 2,and surely he can't cost more than both of the put together.

Lifetime's habit I'm afraid. Believe you me, you've seen nothing compared to some of the "abject performances" we've seen in the past (And probably nothing compared to some of the great ones).

Things have changed since then, our already weak squad has been reduced to virtually neant, so much that we've had to let garbage like Dyer and BWP play again.I thought we'd win last night, I was wrong and am bitterly disappointed, not particularily about the result but by the fact that the old evils are creeping back in again, no effort and no cohesion. From the team that beat Birmingham in the Carling we were without Thomas,Holmes,Schneiderlin and Gillet, the engine room of the affair. I'm not sure that Svensson is the Messiah we all thought he would be, to slow,too limited nowadays. Bart is a joke, always has been apart from a couple of games. I thought Burley wasn't up to much as a manager,but at least he saw through Bart, was it Burley that kicked Smith out as well?.
