  1. For where they actually are today Newcastle have spent relatively little money, most of it provided by the **** Turpin sale of Carroll to Liverpool. We'll have to see if they're capable of maintaining their position with Coloccini out again and Cabaye will be sold to PSG when they get back from Doha. I think Debuchy took a straight red again yesterday so that may put him out for 4 games and he's a very important player for them. They're a bit like us, they have a team but no real squad depth although theirs might be a wee bit better than ours.
  2. Because we're going to put out one of the sh*ttiest sides that we've seen in a long time. Mauricio is talking about rotation and fresh players but we don't actually have too many of those who are of any use to man nor beast. The likely CB pairing of Jos and Maya just makes you shudder, Lee will be in attack, Fox at LB, perhaps Clyne at RB, Gazza in goal again, just that tells you we'll have no hope whatsoever and all it will do is nark off the couple of first team regulars who have to make up the numbers.
  3. Why on earth are we discussing relegation, above all on the FA Cup 3rd Round tie thread. We won't be relegated and we won't win the Cup either so all discussion on either of these points is moot.
  4. Come to think of it though for the 65 million we've spent in 18 months what have we got to show for it really (not to mention salarial mass that went with that spending). JRod,Lovren,Victor and Clyne. so a bit less than half of it, all the rest is iffy and inconsistent at best. We really need to stop wasting money for little or no return..
  5. right, I've worked it out then, if we're not good enough for the Champions League (which we obviously aren't) we might as well finish 9th or 11th or 13th and see if we can't put a few more of our young hopefuls on to the market in order to be able to buy ourselves some Champion's League players.
  6. is that good then, think we're having a problem shifting ours, I've had 2 e mails from the club about buying some already today. Everybody expects us to field a crap side and lose miserably anyway.
  7. it would seem to make good sense, Mata won't come here though, way below his station.
  8. If you say so then, personally I think he's vastly overated at left back not to mention his constant illness and injury problems. Chambers doesn't get injured, doesn't get ill every 5 minutes.
  9. some seemed to think he was quite promising during the summer tour, don't know myself don't every remember seeing him play apart from a few minutes in one of those games.
  10. only probably made up, they don't need Shaw and no-one is going to give us 20 million (or similar) for him.
  11. of course they should, when you look at the number of goals in the PL that come from shots just hit hard into the mixer and that take wicked deflections past keepers you can see the point of shooting often. Think all of City's goals yesterday took deflections, maybe not Tourés. Look at Chelsea's first goal, dink shot, hits post bounces out to Torres who says thanks a lot.
  12. don't worry about it, some of our players didn't look to be in a much better frame of mind.
  13. but probably after he's taken them to an Europa League place, anyway don't they have Koné hanging about somewhere, think he may be injured. He's a good striker, I'd have him if he was available.
  14. he will play because we don't have much else, only the defence will change, the attack will be a permutation of the usual suspects. Can't see Osvaldo being fit or not suspended or whatever so it'll be Rickie,Adam,JRod,Gaston as usual, few minutes from Gallagher perhaps but Burnley are a good side and he'll get nothing from them. I keep asking but can anyone tell me what's happened to Isgrove.
  15. none of our midfielders score very much, what have they got something like 7 goals between them and Lallana has 4 of those. Adam 4,Morgan,Gaston and Steve Davis one each.
  16. Agreed Morgan should have been subbed yesterday, never, ever seen him looking so out of sorts, watched some of the game again yesterday evening and he was absolutely awful, just didn't look bothered at all, mind you his positioning was strange and we seemed to be trying to play with 3 DMs at one time. The fact that whoscored attributed him a note of 5.4 yesterday just shows how bad he was. I mean it's no great reference scale but to get less than 6 you have to get sent off, give away a couple of own goals or just be totally useless.
  17. but that doesn't answer the question of why he doesn't take Morgan or Victor off when they get cards does it. Morgan has had 5 yellows this season, don't think he's ever been subbed after any of them. Victor has had 4 yellows, played the full 90 on 3 of them and was subbed 5 minutes from the end against Arsenal. So at best you can say that Maurico's attitude towards Cork is irrational.
  18. watched the Swansea-City game, City hit everything that was hanging about just outside of the box first time, think they scored at least 2 goals from it and the conditions seemed pretty awful there as well.
  19. It seems completely illogical is his handling of Corky, must be for some reason we don't know about, like putting Reed on the bench every game and never using him (well apart from about 30 seconds against City).
  20. but he doesn't take Morgan or Victor off when they get cards though does he. Just Cork, does it every time he gets a yellow card, did it at Everton despite having no realistic back up on the bench, dropped JWP and Davis to DM and Everton strolled through us to win. Yesterday Morgan was absolutely awful but Cork got subbed just because he'd got a silly yellow.
  21. Arsenal are always "in" for any player with a pair of boots at every transfer window, they usually end up buying nothing or signing some 12 year old from Honduras or similar. Agent Bollix or Paper Bollix sums up most of Arsenal's interest.
  22. we might actually get Mariga if we tried, he's Victor's brother and doesn't actually play at Milan, no idea whatsover if he's any good, hasn't played for a fair while now.
  23. On the subject of Lovren, that smack in the mouth he got from José (I think) didn't look particularly pleasant though did it. Obviously had a tooth or some teeth knocked out, did well to play on with it really. It was after what 3 or 4 minutes of the first half, I think if we'd had any viable change solution on the bench we'd have subbed him but as we don't we didn't. Mauricio obviously has no real confidence in either Maya or Jos and it's painful to have to accept that we have 2 CBs and anything that breaks up the partnership is a disaster in waiting.
  24. An interesting point here. Everton and Newcastle both have pretty efficient loan strikers this season, they're getting goals from them for relatively little initial outlay but what you'd presume are hefty salaries but at the end of the season Lukaku and Remy will probably have cost their respective teams somewhere in the regon of 5 million quid for returns of around 15/18 goals I'd guess. Now we have a 13 million £ outlay on a striker, plus about 3 million in salary who or may or may not provide us with 10 goals, not looking great on that one yet. We do not use the loan market efficiently in the way some teams do.
  25. not Gazza, I want us to win if we can.
