I think Wotte is tactically inept. so many times yesturday all the outfield players were on one side of the pitch. This would have been a perfect oppurtunity for the wide man (most of the time thompson) to push rigt up the pitch, and hug the touchline. doing this completely opens the pitch up and enables a quick switch of play and the chance to stretch the defence. However if this is to happend Schneiderlin must be on the pitch as he has the ability to pass a ball as well as anyone in the prem. When we ge the ball into the wide positions we also do not fill the box or oposition half well enough. the ball should be played in and both forwards making runs, the back post should be attacked by the oposing wide man. one CM should be attacking the ball from deeper and holding around the Penalty spot. whilst the other covers the edge of the area from 25-30 yards. The full back from the other flank should be pushed up ready to gather any ball that has been overhit/cleared to his side so he can put it back in quickly. This may sound like it will leave us shy at the back, but 3 players are left back and is similar to a corner set up but is during open play. When we have the ball at feet we also do not play in an attacking manor, look at the top teams and the ball is played from the full back to the CM back out wide to the wingers again and then the ball is put into the box. Obviously it wont always be that simple but that is what we should look to do. When defending we do not defend in box formation which is the most effective way of defending, players that are out wide should be left out there and the defenders and midfielders should form a box shape which should not be breached, unless you are playing the dutch team with crujf(spl) et al. The opponent who has the ball should always be pressured, so if the ball is swithed from one side to the other, which will always have to be throught the air. The full back/midfielder on that side of the pitch should press the ball and the players that were previously pressing on the otherside of the pitch are then brought back into the box shape. The idea of this tactic is to give the oponent little time as there will always be somone close to press them and to get to the goal they have to try and break this box down.
