I really don't see it not when beacons etc and this celebration or what ever is being conducted all four corners of the earth. im not saying everyone is dancing in the streets..but can't really think of any other king/queen/president (other than obama) would get such attention.

many people I know (who are not in the forces) are not too bothered for the queen. BUT they do feel it is great that in our miserable lives we are able and seems acceptable again to party, flag wave and just generally be proud to be British...look back at our great great (and at times, not so great) history. think of the amazing people that come from and who came from these islands. times like this and celebrations like this that span the globe stop us from being completely tin pot and another belgium or other non/bland nations obviously, I am very pro monarchy...but those who are not, why can't you just have a little fun, go out and chat to people that you would not normally do and just take a break from our miserable lives?
