Theres a lot of good documentries around as well at the mo. Just finished watching "The War" by Ken Burns who made a superb series on the American Civil War a few years ago. The War is yet another series on WW11 but made from a very American perspective ,has some amazing archive film and awesome recollections from American participants both on the front line and at home.It is not afraid to criticize as well which is unusual for a US series. Also been watching "Shooting The War" on BBC4. Again WW11 but is a compilation of home movies from Germany and the UK from the Home Front and the Frontline. Nearly all of it previously unseen.

Excellent series and a great book. All episodes based on fact. The guy was an embedded reporter from Rolling Stone. Watched it first time round and the re-watched when it was repeated even better the second time round.

Sky Movies Premiere (not only on HD). Good idea its on Sky Movies ,no advertising breaks, no annoying logos in corner of the screen. Starts at Easter.

Also the superb Grave Of The Fireflies based on the fire bombing of Kobe.

If the Brits made a version it was have to have David Tennant and David Jason in it. Nearly all would be filmed on location in a quarry and all the main actors would do a "funny" musical version of it on ****ing Children In Need......................

Excellent series generally but by the end I started to get irritated by endless unneccasary shots of Dan Snow poncing around in various types of sailing vessels.
