The UK secured an opt-out from Schengen and has chosen not to take advantage of the flexibilities it enjoys under FoM rules. Fair enough you want more control even if you’re in denial of the evidence about its likely consequences.

The EU has already said that a Norway-type deal is on the table in which case the UK would pay in a similar amount. Frankly the money is secondary to the EU. More important is protecting the integrity of the single market and the four freedoms. If anything UK would love things to be about money if it meant by paying in more it could retain the parts of the single market it likes while avoiding the parts -FoM, role of the ECJ etc- it doesn’t.

Behave with this silly language. The EU is simply following its own rules (that the UK helped shape) and offering the same type of deal it offers others in light of the UK’s red lines. It’s acting consistently, not arbitrarily, never mind ad hominem. Once the UK set out it’s redlines, those options shrank drastically. The more pertinent question is why the UK feels the rules don’t apply to it.
