Wes a fair and well put post which in parts I agree and others I don't but not enough to make a major argument out of it. For the record though the tangent I was putting on things was in reaction to those who were saying they bought shares solely in an attempt to oust the board at that time. Considering the amounts involved in many of those purchases they acted out of stupidity than any thoughful purpose in my opinion. You speak of investors as supporters who wanted a connection with the club and I called them real investors people investing for the right reasons not because they had issues with the chairman. If that was their agenda don't go to games if that's the case, it proved more effective. -

Not at all that is just a complete waste of time in the stupid way we vote for our parliament in this country. -

But what about those other than Lowe who lost a packet? Do you not appreciate that your gloating over Lowe may be offensive to those who may have lost alot of money to, Sad Act? -
Are you worried about our foreign policy and that of the UN or more concerned about the cost of your next fix?

+1 . The Taliban may not be there allegedly and over the border in Pakistan but what happens if the troops move out? Back over the border they will come and until that country is strong enough to stand on it's own two feet and repel the Taliban at its borders it remains a strategic hot spot to ensure terrorism in this form is suppressed.

If his eyes? I think you are the idiot. He lost the sight in one eye due to an accident playing rugby and I believe has a detached retina or something equally serious in the other which means he could go blind anytime. If he is baffoon it's because he prefers to carry out his not insignificant responsibilities ensuring the likes of you have a decent country in which to live, than take a lot of time off work to try and repair the sight in his good idea and hopefully ensure he get's to see his kids grow up. I guess 'aint' we can safely assume what option you would take?

Having a Prime Minister called 'Tony' didn't help, to be fair on Brown and whose fault is it anyway they got the extra terms in office? The electorate and the voting system are as much to blame as anyone else and don't start me on the FSA who clearly didn't fulfill their remit.

I haven't seen much news since yesterday afternoon but I sincerely hope Cameron does not seek political capital out of all this and that he supports Brown for his personal and private way of contacting the next of kin of those who have died whilst distancing himself completely and irrevocably from the Murdoch empire. If the Tories do or have jumped on The Sun's bandwagon then I am fairly sure the opinion polls will swing back towards Labour. If so Cameron will only have himself to blame for choosing to suspend a campaign based on economic criticisms to join a despicable act of sewage slinging that not only sullys the memories of all those others who have paid the ultimate price but makes our country look seedy and capable of extracting money and self serving agendas from the most contemptible circumstances. Has Cameron or a Tory spokesperson said anything do we know? Have they joined the ignorant, uneducated and beligerant who surely are all that remains of the Sun's readership?

I suspect many don't even have to complete a tax return so increasing your capital gains tax allowance is not going to amount to whole lot when most people only own one house and are not major shareholders. Otherwise - yes it is great news and thanks for the advise on equities and life in a fully developed nation of the West. What do you suggest with my final salary pensions and my personal pension where I am fully invested in the emeging markets. Shall I merge the two as I am worried about the my previous company not topping up the short fall of £90m + and Mongolia and Tibet are not taking off as quickly as I imagined? -
You'll do well to listen to some of the relatives of those who he killed. I'm not getting into the whole death penalty debate we've done that recently but in a lesson in how to conduct yourself when a person is deliberately killed then the man I heard on the radio was very dignified. Let's face it he had more of a right to a response such as your thread title but chose not to perhaps recognising that even in his heinous crimes the man was still someone's son. sibling or maybe father thereby creating more suffering on innocent victims. I don't know what the answer is but 'Good riddance and no real loss' is not it of that I am certain.

The first few posts of this thread have helped me calm down in the fact that this IMO is a simple case of an attention / payment seeking grieving mother being shamelessly manipulated by a 'paper' to play out their own political agenda. I saw her interview on the news channel yesterday afternoon and the fact she mentioned 'Its not about the money' suggests to me exactly the opposite and she can say she is going to make donations etc but no doubt some of it will be held back for charity No 1. I am not a Brown supporter but only a complete idiot would not accept that Brown was anything other than genuine and to throw a few stones at some spelling mistakes, seriously who cares and show me the one person who has ever written a hand written personal note without the odd mistake. The fact someone has taken the time to write in such a personal matter is fantastic and if we have excuses for our mistakes this bloke is responsible for all of us FFS and is doing so with a disability that may get very much worse. I imagine his time for proof reading is somewhat limited and employinmg someone to do it for him depersonalises surely the very thing he is trying to achieve. I hope this backfires on that odious newpaper and Mrs James (sic) who IMO have sullied the memory of every other brave servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate price and those who grieve their loss with a hell of a lot more class and dignity. Those brave men and women knew what they could be exposing themselves to when they joined up just like their loved ones so what makes Mrs Janes so special? She is proud of her son and angry at the way he was treated. I'm not so sure if he was alive today he would be so proud of his Mum or agree with her actions and the negative attention she has bought upon him. Still no doubt the money she mentioned will buy her some nice dentures. Humiliating and degrading on so many levels it's difficult to write the words that can describe appropriately the Sun and Mrs Janes. How did the Sun get to know about this personal letter? Surprised she didn't hide her son in a divan bed upstairs - there are times when I really detest at times this country's attention seeking easy street residents. Truly odious, offensive and ungrateful and hugely disrepectful of all those who give their lives fighting on our behalf. Hate is a powerful word and one I rarely use but I hate the Sun and Mrs Janes and everything they stand for whilst trying to shield themselves buy some code that they believe should generate public outrage. Well Its backfired big time IMO.

Exactly, its bit like rejoicing in a major plane crash where one loathed person has met their end whilst ignoring all the other victims. To focus solely on Lowe's loss is idiotic and shows the mentality at it's best that nearly put this club out of existence thanks to one very patient and reasonable man. That's one man, so please lets not go down the route 'I knew we would be saved' it was a queue of one when it was time to pay at the till. Our churlish attitude that went before from the top down and on both sides no doubt help play a part in keeping the queue short and yet we still tramp the dirt down. There are questions that remain unanswered as far as I am concerned and I will continue to raise them but now is the not time for celebration more reflection and considered questions. -

Come on Wes, I think those traits were lost from all sides about 2 years ago. Those who bought them out of spite just to vote against Lowe when £100 worth of shares, or similar tiny percentages, would have no bearing on the outcome of a shareholder vote got their just rewards IMO. If there is one lesson to come out of all of this and at most levels you'll find an example of a fool and his money being easily parted. It's the real investors I have sympathy for but those with a another less supportive agenda (to put it mildly) deserved to lose and perhaps that reflects the tone of the letter? Certainly no ordinary plc IMO. The niceities were long since dispensed with. -

Dear Leon Ditto + a bit more of your pounds sterling and next letter Dear Lawrie Very shrewd off loading your shares when you received them if a little ungrateful but nonetheless a sign perhaps that you would be willing to walk away from the club when you had to buy a ticket? Was your heart really ever in Southampton FC after you left for Sunderland? Seems not IMO. Please pass this letter on to your wife who you were at least able to accompany as a guest at shareholder meetings allegedly. Regards Blah Blah I hope they worded the letter in the same smug way the mods give out infractions (no offence mods:)) All in the interest of balance and no one seems to care the biggest shareholder has lost the lot. I suppose the 2006 dissenters knew the outcome when they supported him? Shall we all gloat? -
That's me told.

If you drive down through Earles Court past the tube station and join the Embankment at Chelsea heading towards Battersea Bridge there is a Townhouse facing you on the left, after a short distance. There is usually two old Bentley's or Rolls Royces parked side by side facing the house with the number plates: 2 B NOT 2B Haven't been up there for a while but a friend was in town last month and he mentioned then to me unaware I had seen them many times.

Points 1 and 2 are well observed and certainly major barriers for me to take the leap of faith that others take so readily and I envy them for being able to. I'm not sure about 3 with regard to those 'working in it'. If we are talking vergers and church wardens then I think you are wrong in my experience but if we expand to 'bellringers' who are following a hobby or perhaps gift shop staff in a Cathedral for instance then yes I agree. Bit like being an eco-warrior and working in a petrol station. Churches for me have become very stale and boring for a Sunday service but nothing provides a better back drop for a wedding or a funeral and like you allude to most who attend such services as the main stars of the show or in the supporting cast are unlikely to be regular church goers or devout believers. Personally, I think its time for those who want to hold a marriage or funeral in church and with music, choirs and all that pomp can do so but with some form of expansion of the civil ceremony. Churches are struggling to survive and wouldn't this be a way of increasing their revenues by charging out their building as oppose at appropriate rates oppose to providing a great show and service for hypocrites and on the cheap in the hope they may convert a tiny percentage who would not otherwise walk through the door?

Having seen half of Saints Keiths number plate which has left us guessing what the other blanked out two numbers are before KG, I thought we could have a thread about the best number plates we have seen on the road. Tarbuck use to have COM IC and Daniels use to have MAG 1C which were quite good unlike their owners but I can't include them as I only ever saw them in newspapers or adverts etc. A few months back a Porsche overtook me on the M3 with the number plate ADV150R which I guess would be considered quite cool for a city boy in Corporate Finance. Probably, the best I have seen as they don't tend to register with me other than a passing 'knob' comment about such a shameful waste of money and for what reason? BTW I think the two missing digits on Keith's number plate are probably 69 - just a hunch.
