I note from reading today’s Times that Public Sector Unions are up in arms at Danny Alexander’s plans to raise the pension age in line with that of the private sector – In his words: “it’s unjustifiable to ask the taxpayer to work longer and pay more so that public sector workers can retire earlier and receive more”. I bring this up as my missus has just qualified as a teacher and is slowly being brainwashed by her financially secure baby boomer colleagues with paid off mortgages and money in the bank. Last night she actually brought out the old “people became teachers because whilst the wages were low the pension was good”. Sorry but: A- The country’s skint B- Where in these teacher’s contracts doe’s it guarantee gold plated, recession proof busting pensions 9I only ask as in the Private Sector everything refers back to your contract C- They get guaranteed wage rises every year, this year was the first year in 3 we did at my place (2%) D- Striking will turn the public against them despite the undoubtedly amazing job they do I am honestly seeing a savvy girl being brainwashed by the militant older teachers at her school. Fortunately I was able to make her see sense last night and I will continue to do so but I feel for other new members of the important public sector that don’t have an intelligent other at home to provide valuable balance to any argument.

People can say all they like about the mail and other papers making things up. I work for a national paper, let me make this clear: we NEVER "make up" a transfer rumour, EVERY story has come from the player, his club, his agent, the buying club or a very close source (a mate that has been proven right before or family member). Sorry, I know this goes against peoples perceptions but there is categorically no chance of stories being made up a and there's plentyof stories that don't go to print as they don't 100% check out that are proved right. Don't shoot the messenger people, someone us clearly touting him out.

My arsenal mates at work (3 of which are st holders and all live in either N1 or N5) think he's had his best season since arriving, he's scored more, made more than any previous season yet been injured for a 1/3 of the season? Does your mate actually go? To be fair oxo at utd would be a good move prob, arsenal are a guilty pleasure for me as first and foremost ima football fan and they try and play it better than any other team, spend less than their rivals and conduct themselves with a bit if class off the Pitch. If they won something I feel it would be a victory for football but hey ho. Fergy will develop cambo well enough as he obviously has potential and will always win medals.

If Theo is fit, he starts for Arsenal. He will also have a far superior career to SS. brilliant move by Theo and family, development led to becoming player most feared by Pep Guardiola, goals and assists against best sides in Europe in biggest matches inc cup finals and scoring that hat trick in Croatia - englands most important win since Germany 01. Thanks both to our brilliant development, oh and the small matter of being schooled by this country's biggest advocate of total football and training alongside Henry, Fabrigas, Willshire, Nasri and Van Persie. However you'd have preferred he stayed to spearhead our Promotion run against Derby, Preston and Millwall eh? Can't wait for him o return to SMS so I can hive him a round of applause!

Loving the ever bitter, ignorant comments re Wallcott going to Arsenal somehow being a bad move. England international, 12 goals last season despite injury probs, training daily with rvp, fabrigas, willshire, nasri etc. Scored in cup finals, progressed with England and is 1st choice with capello (although the ignorant amongst us prob think multiple trophy winning capello should e sacked fir allerdice or redknapp) and scored a hat trick in enclaves biggest performance since Germany in 01 against Croatia, has a certain pep guardiola amongst his biggest fans and scares the crap out if the worlds best defenders on a weekly basis. Yeah, terrible move that! Personally every time I see Theo burning champions league and premiership defenders on a weekly basis I'm Incedibly proud of my clubs role in his development! So many on here let bitterness hide facts it's pathetic.

A mate of mine that owns a local cleaning business is this week pitching for the St Marys contract. His company is a medium sized one that already has some decent local contracts - however, the St Marys contract will be a massive boost to his business both in financial and prestigious terms. Anyway - why is this so good? Up until now the contract has been with a national cleaning business, my mate was approached by the club 2 days after the Wallsall game because after achieving promotion, and fitting with their long term strategy, the club have decided that all contracts should go to local City businesses. This isn't just the cleaning contract but extends to delivery vans, taxis, catering, security etc etc. Credit where it's due I think this is a great idea and one befitting a community club. Still wish they hurried up and made an announcement about ST's though!!!!

How do you know? Were you at the last trial where their lawyers raised sufficiant doubt to make the Judge order a not guilty verdict? Have you seen all the evidence and listened to the defence's interpratation of it? Basically you have as much proof of that as the next person that says Stephen Lawrence was a drug dealer that dealt to school kids. Every person that says they "know" they did it is actually helping them get off as their lawyer can point to "internet jurys" as a means of influincing a trial with predujice.

Out of interest, when was the last time a team got a points deduction for crowd trouble? They didn't smash it up last time, in fact it was an easy stroll back to Fratton Station after that game. The time before however was mental - I loved it! I didn't have a ticket but jibbed in - well worth the effort, forget the result (except for the 4-1, worst day of my SFC life) Pompey away is awesome, pure hatred and bile from both sides, I hate them and anyone in blue hates me - that the way I like it too!
-
Didn't do the Channon Windmill but properly went for it at the skates The Lad is a true Southampton legend – would love to have him back. A Stanmore boy and ST holder as a kid (old man still is) and genuinely laddish too.
-
No chance they will get a fair trial - just look at the comments on here. before people have seen/ heard evidence their minds are made up.

At Oxo's age Theo was prepairing to go to the World Cup after making his debut against Hungury aged 17 and 75 days. He had already been in the top 3 for Young Sports Personality of the year in 2005 and won it in 2006. Everyone seems to forget that at 17 Theo was known as the most exciting young player in Europe with every big club after him. He had burned up and scored goals against the likes of Wolves, Stoke and Leeds - with respect far bettersides than Oxo's been up against this season!
-
I completely agree with their philosophy (admittedly it's easy to say that when you don't support them) as I'm a football fan as well as a Saints fan and I hate seeing Citeh, Chelsea etc hoovering up trophies with no respect for legacy, quality of football etc. I was just astonished to see someone above suggest that Wenger doesn't "add value" to players!
-
What can I say, words simply failed me.... Let's start him for England next chance we get, with his crossig and lambert's aerial presence the Euro's next summer are as good as won!

Quite honestly one of the most jaw droppingly shocking sentances I've ever seen on the internet!!!! Fabrigas - Fee = free. Value = £30m+ Van Persie – Fee = undisclosed. Value = £20m+ Clichy – Fee = undisclosed. Value = £15m Gibbs – Fee = youth team. Value = £8m Wilshire – Fee = youth Team. Value = £30m Song – Fee = undisclosed. Value = £15m Nasri – Fee = £12m. Value = £20m Bendtner – Fee = youth team. Value = £8m Sagna – Fee = undisclosed. Value = £10m Wallcott – Fee = £8m. Value = £20m So that’s roughly £120m of “added value” in the last 4/5 years. Oh, before that we get into Viera, Henry, Anelka territory…. Arsenal are the only big club that would qualify under the new fair play rules bebause of Wengers awesome ability to spot young talent and nurture it. Anyone that thinks different is just plain wrong.

Oh well, here we go again….. Better than Theo? When he’s scored a hat-trick for the England 1st team in a competitive match against the best team in our group, scared Barcelona half to death – more than once, scored in a Cup Final, broken (Rooney’s before Theo) age and scoring records for England at U17,19 &21 level and a regular (when fit) for the best footballing side in this country and probably the 2nd best in Europe behind the team that fear him (Barca), all before he’s 23!… I’ll agree with you. Do you actually remember Theo when he played for us? He was a year younger than Oxo and playing in a division higher yet made a far bigger impact. As for Oxo being the most exciting young player in the country now – sorry but I’d say the small matter of Jack Wilshire being the only young footballer we have that can potentially hold a torch to Fabrigas, Xavi, Busquetes and Iniesta and the potential to be as/ if not more important to our Country than Gazza, slightly pips him to that one….

Southampton Parkway Train station car park..
JackanorySFC replied to Joey-deacons-left-nut's topic in The Lounge
If you are getting there at 6.30 (presumibly for the 06.38 that I get regulary?) then I'd aim to get there 10 minutes earlier and park on the airport side - there are usually spaces there and it's far easier to get out of the Station from there when you get back - the Eastleigh side is carnage at the moment with the building works going on! -
100% true, able to go up there at lunch from where I work, can get starter main and sides for £20 tops (drinks bought from a nearby offy). Have to say a curry is the one thing in London (along with prostitutes) that is cheaper and better quality than home. In Southampton I’d go for The Mystery on Thornhill Park Rd, deliver to West End and decent enough eats when you’ve had a skin full! Purbani in Botley is best round that way, staff know your name and I'm a sucker for that kind of thing... Best curry oop north goes to Nawaab in Leeds City Centre, quite a “posh” curry house but class I have to say. It also prompted the best quote I’ve had from a client at a dinner – they serve naans on these stands and there absolutely huge, anyway when they brought it over the fella I was with hadn’t been there before and greeted his naan with “fook me lad, I asked for a Naan not a Zulu Warrior shield….” you probably had to be there to be fair…..

On the pitch, on the pitch, on the pitch! Tenner to anyone that goes early and "does a klinsmann" on the slidy surface!

If it's me you meant mate I went to the ticket office at 9am on the opening day of the season with cash to buy 6 STs but was told I was "too late". The lads I was buying for are mostly self employed so without their STs they've been doing cash jobs on sats instead and have prob done 4 games each on ave, I've prob only done 13/14 myself. Still scratching my head at the clubs decision there....

I’m lucky enough to be going to Dinner by Heston tonight. Absolute nightmare getting a table but apparently worth the hype? Anyway, a few people here at work (working in the industry I do there’s a fair whack of “schmoozing” that has to be done so certain people here know their way around the West End…) it’s serving up the best food in London in years. So, co-habitants of Saintsweb, what’s the most amazing restaurant you’ve ever been lucky enough to eat in? Before tonight (and who knows, could be over priced crap) I’d say La Altier de Joel Rebuchon in Cov Gdn. Not really eaten abroad so can’t give any New York or Paris shouts. Most average when expecting great goes to both Scotts and the Ivy. Best atmosphere Hakkassan. Best for going nuts at the expense of a stockbroker mate goes to Coq d’ Argant (well overrated otherwise though)… Best in Southampton is White Star I’d say but I’d like to try Vatika.

How many tickets sold for hartlepool and walsall?
JackanorySFC replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Got 6 tickets together at the back of block 2 together this afternoon no problem. Still plenty left by the looks of things?
