  1. The mistake he made when selling the gold was that he advertised he was going to sell off a huge amount. Because the exchanges knew there was going to be an imminent glut of bullion on the market it naturally sent the spot price crashing prior to the sale. Brown was an incoptetent fool to do this when the prudent way of selling is to do it gradually so the price isn't adversely affected. Gold is currently trading at just under $1200/troy Oz, what did Brown sell at?
  2. Scrapping inherittance tax for millionaires is wrong end of. I might want a Conservative government but this proposal stinks in the current economic climate.
  3. We could possibly be up with Villa, but we'll never be as big as Everton or Spurs. If we built a 40,000 stadium we'd struggle to sell out, but a club like Spurs (less so Everton) could easily sellout a 60,000 stadium - we couldn't.
  4. In the context of the premier league it makes us not big.
  5. About that.
  6. I'm not wanting to knock us, far from it, we've gpt really a really strong fanbase, but in our history we've never been in the same bracket as the clubs I mentioned above.
  7. Yeah. Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle, Leeds, are big clubs. Then come the likes of Leicester, Forest, Derby, West Ham, Norwich, Ipswich and Saints.
  8. It depends which goldfish bowl you swim in. Currently we're a big club, but we're a small club in the conext of the Premier league.
  9. Does this lack of an answer mean you don't know the answer OR are there no political benefits?
  10. Welldone for ruining another thread.
  11. Let's not ruin the thread. VFTT will have to have the last word as is his style, but I think we should get back on topic.
  12. Pots and Kettles.
  13. A well reasoned response yet again. And to think you "claim" to work in Education.:smt058
  14. What are the political benefits?
  15. I wonder how happy solentstars would be had we completely sold out to the EU and had joined the single currency. Would he be happy for us to be lending money to a country who's credit rating is "junk" at a rock bottom interest rate?
  16. It pains me to say it but I agree with Brown that we need a global agreement on banking because unilateral measures will simply see London decline as the hub of world finance. If London declines then the tax revenue declines and we will essentially be shooting ourselves in the foot.
  17. They are frankly clueless. China doesn't exactly struggle to trade. The EU's political controls are in fact a hindrance to Britains ability to trade with the red tape and policies such as the CAP. Think about it - these policies are not there for the good of the masses, they are there because France wants them there for the simple reason that their country is Unionised and they require such policies to drag everyone else down to their uncompetitive level. The EU is essentially a protectionist racket weighted in favour of Latin/Mediteranian Europe.
  18. The only political comparison with Pompey that I can think of is Gordon Browns mismanagement of the economy.
  19. Was running a bugdget deficit through the boom times (because Gordon had eliminated the possibility of boom and bust) the work of a genious? When i think of Prudence Browns management of the economy this nursey rhyme keeps springing to mind... Old Mother Hubbard Went to the cupboard To get her poor doggie a bone, When she got there The cupboard was bare So the poor little doggie had none.
  20. I can't see Mr Liebherr ever making money out of Saints, despite the talk of aiming to do so from Nicola Cortese. In my opinion it's just talk to give the impression we won't be made mugs of in the transfer market. ML has the bug in my opinion and although initially SFC might have been seen as a business and pleasure venture we'll just be a pleasure venture that makes ML happy in the end. The fact is that Saints will always be a provincial little club and to achieve what ML wants will always mean we've got to spend more than we bring in.
  21. I've got no objections to a common market trade zone, but it's the political union that i object to. Why is political union necessary?
  22. In your opinion, that's not what it says in my UKIP welcome pack.
  23. I'd vote to leave.
  24. You have to go and spoil it don't you. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz.
