I hate this swearfilter... Nigel Adkins is expected to take charge of first-team training at S****horpe on Friday morning, even as negotiations were due to continue over him becoming Southampton manager. Adkins and assistant Andy Crosby were asked to take charge at St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday night, they agreed but the two clubs had yet to agree a compensation fee. Adkins, who has been in charge at Glanford Park since November 2006, has made it clear he wants to go to the South Coast but will not leave until the Iron are happy with their financial compensation. The Iron host Bristol City in a Championship game on Saturday, and Adkins will be in the home dugout unless an agreement is reached. Ian Baraclough, S****horpe's first-team coach, is expected to be made caretaker manager should Adkins and Crosby depart before the game. Steve Wharton, the Iron chairman, criticised Southampton's pursuit of Adkins on Thursday morning, words which will not have helped his chances of getting a large fee out of his Saints counterpart Nicola Cortese. Adkins countered Wharton's comments, praising the behaviour of both clubs. "Southampton approached S****horpe, they gave me permission to speak to Southampton and I have done that," he said. "I have done things as professionally as I can, unfortunately one or two comments got out into the media but negotiations need to be private and confidential. Everything has been done in exemplary fashion by both parties. "If Nigel Adkins leaves S****horpe United it should be done in the right manner and the two clubs should be able to agree compensation. Compensation has not been agreed as it stands, negotiations were going on into the very small hours late on Wednesday night. "One of the scenarios that could happen is that the manager has the option to resign [to force a move]. That is against my principles so that is not even being considered." Bournemouth claimed their manager, Eddie Howe, turned down the position on Thursday - possibly in the period earlier in the day where negotiations between the Saints and S****horpe appeared to have broken down.

S****HORPE United manager Nigel Adkins has NOT yet signed for Southampton. And the likelihood seems now that he will not be going to St Mary’s. First thing today the club put out a statement saying Adkins and his right hand man Andy Crosby had agreed terms to join Southampton after talks yesterday. It was subject to the two clubs agreeing a compensation package. But Iron chairman Steve Wharton exclusively told the Telegraph that the deal had not gone through. “The situation is that Nigel and was given an ultimatum last night by Southampton to resign and accept their offer, said Wharton. “But Nigel was not prepared to do that. He wanted to walk out of Glanford Park with his head held high and everything agreed. “I have tried to contact the Southampton chairman today but have not been able to get hold of him. “I was not prepared to roll over and let Nigel leave for nothing. “I wanted some compensation for what I felt he was worth. It was only a modest amount. “From a selfish point of view I will be happy if Nigel stays with us. “But I also feel very sorry for Nigel if this was a move that he had set his heart on. “The Southampton people have been very difficult to deal with. “They are probably not the right sort of people for Nigel to be working with. “But at the moment I am not exactly sure what the situation is until I have talked further to Nigel.”

Took the missus once to St.Marys - if my memory is correct was againt Barnley at home in the CCC - we got tickets from Tim Orme if you remember his so the tickets where very close to the team bench. My missus only liked the game once and it was not when Saints scored : / It was when Kenwyne Jones was coming on as a sub a took his warm up jersey off and she saw that he had six pack.....then suddenly the game was really interesting.....Last time I went to St.Marys (FA-Cup game vs Poopey) I took my 10 year old daughter instead - but to be honest she much more liked the shopping in London the day after - so next time St.Marys is on my own : )
