I did a bit of background research on kubuntu 8.10 and it seems there are problems with the wireless connections. The general consensus seemed to be install & configure Ubuntu Intrepid and then install the KDE alongside.
-
After backing up, I couldn't find a way of restoring the kernel, so I decided to go Intrepid. Pretty much back to where I was last night with the exception of having a ***** of a time installing kmymoney. Wireless setup was a doddle this time, as was setting up the nVidia graphics and sound drivers. Just need to get KDE working properly, and I'll be a happy bunny again

I managed to catch a few details of the 'update' and it seemed to just say it was deleting the latest kernel, I was thinking that a previous version of the kernel maybe hidden somewhere, and if I can set that to boot I shouldn't lose too much. Sound reasonable? Though a full re-install wouldn't be a major problem, I just don't like the thought of having to set up the wireless internet again. Is this a bit easier under intrepid?

I've discovered that I can at least see the installation if I use the Live CD, so I can back up my home folder to a memory stick. Can I use the live CD to restore the Kernel do you think?

Yeah, I had a feeling that this was bigger than the average **** up!

I've recently been experimenting with Ubuntu Hardy on my pc, and all was going very well (using it more than Vista Ultimate anyway). Unfortunately, I started running before I was walking properly, and in my eagerness to play Simcity 3000 on Linux, I was trying to install an earlier version of Ubuntu on another partition. It wasn't going to plan, so I jacked it in and went back to Hardy... ... But I left the disc with the earlier version in the drive. Ubuntu then proceeded to go through an 'update' which wiped the Hardy kernel and some libraries from the system and now I can't get past Grub, let alone get into Ubuntu. Does anyone have a clue how I might be able to restore Hardy without a full re-install (and losing files, settings etc.)? or should I complete my descent into geek-dom and sign up to an Ubuntu forum? Thanks in advance for any pity, advice or abuse you may have to offer.

Are you still stuck on 15? 'cos I am too now

****, maybe it's me that needs the WD40 #-o
-
ok, so my algebra is a little rusty, but how the hell did you get to o=2?
-
Thankyou, I think I should go home and eat before going on with this!

I'm stuck on 2 in my defence, it's been a long day so far, can anyone offer a morsel of help?

We've had one of those brown bins for quite a while now, and even though it wasn't often warm last summer, if you keep it in the shade as much as possible and don't forget to put it out every week, it's generally not too much of a problem. A rinse out with bleach now and then does the trick, though one of those bin cleaning companies might give it a wash out for a couple of quid... Apart from that, we've got (courtesy of the Tories) a black bin for landfill, green for metal, paper and plastic, and a couple of sacks for garden waste. They don't collect glass though, even though both adjacent councils do  Pay as you throw wouldn't really be a problem for us as there's only the two of us and we barely fill one black bag a week. Though I can imagine my neighbours with three kids and one income might see it a little differently!

I completed it over the weekend, as with some others I was a little disappointed at the length of the single player game. But to be honest, I'm now of the opinion that the single player side of games like this is secondary to the online game. I'm sure I'll dip back into the single player game now and then, if only to boost my trophy collection, but for the foreseeable future, I'll mostly be playing this to death online

The reason I liked CoD4 online so much was that it was the first game I ever played online, and I like to think I was starting to get pretty good at it over the last few months (managed to get myself up to prestige 7 :smt066 ). CoD5 seems a lot more challenging online, the weapons aren't so easy to use and the maps seem bigger and more complex. Now that the servers seem to have settled down, I think I'll make the most of this week while the mrs is away to get fully acquainted the maps

Is anyone else having trouble actually getting a game played online?
-
The game arrived from amazon yesterday, though I nearly lost it to the dogs who thought it was a toy when it came through the letterbox!!! Finally got to play it last night though, and the solo mode is ****ing awesome. Couldn't get online last night though, I guess too many trying at once!?
-
My girlfriend is off to Ireland for a week, so I can play as much as I want without any of the usual grief
-
That will be the last order I put through to Play, they barely even apologised for the **** up. I'm just hoping mr postman will have delivered it from Amazon by the time I get home today [-o
-
Ordered from play.com on tuesday, package turned up today with motorstorm pacific rift in it  I let rip at play.com's customer services, and re-ordered from amazon, hopefully it will arrive before the weekend, otherwise i may have to go to the local asda! What's the verdict so far from those who've played it?

Similar to an option we're considering. I know you can rent semi-furnished, but how about semi decorated?

in our case it's not a case of over extension, just as we went to re-mortgage 2 months ago, there were a couple of reposessions in our area which didn't sell at auction, therefore the surveyor assumed a massive drop in house prices, and put us out of even the 90% LTV bracket. Of course no other bank will touch >90% LTV mortgages now, so we're stuffed. Of course the more house prices fall the less chance we've got  When I spoke to Northern Rock about this, I said it was almost worth us deliberately defaulting on the mortgage. Their response was along the lines "if that's what you want to do, then that's up to you". It kind of summed up how interested they are in helping their existing customers.
-
what's really f*cking annoying is that Northern Rock offer reasonably discounted rates to new customers, but if you're an existing customer they'll do f*ck all even though you can't get a mortgage elsewhere at the moment and are stuck on their standard variable rate. Nothing like getting repeatedly kicked while your down, eh?

If you have to try them (her rules), then T for Threesome?

After getting my new desktop recently, I tried to set my old one up with Win98SE to see how well it would run. I managed to track down most of the drivers, but it was just too unstable. I gave up when I started to remember how irritating the blue screen of death really is! I might try and dig out a copy of ME though to see how that copes, might just save the thing from an early trip to the charity shop.
