I downloaded and played the demo at the weekend, and after almost exclusively playing CoD for the past few months, I had a lot of trouble with the different control system. But it looks good (even in non-HD :smt022 ) so my pre-order with Amazon still stands.

The reaction to that TV was probably close to what I was expecting. I have to admit that I'm probably more interested in the gaming side of things at the moment, but I will check out that link before I think about spending my hard earned cash!

My step dad kept one of these by the back door, though it mysteriously kept getting broken.

hand painting seemed so much fun at school that I decided to demonstrate my talents at home using the sofa and a tin of metal primer paint that I found. Seemingly my mum didn't appreciate the gesture as much as I thought she would.

I assume you mean Miss Busybody?

Personally I'm a Lazytown fan. Stingy rules!!!

Thanks for the advice, I'll start teaching myself about HDTV. But if one of you were looking to buy a TV at the moment, is there anything in particular that you'd define as 'must have'? Cheers,
-
I know. The price jumped out at me first, then I realised that I know the sum total of f*ck all about HDTV so was looking for the unique brand of advice only available on this site I probably will go for branded over unbranded, and that one does look a whole lot better, but sadly I've still got to keep the mrs happy by finishing decorating the lounge first

I've started to think about upgrading the old CRT for something a bit more HD. I'm not likely to specifically buy this one, but in terms of spec can anyone tell me if it is missing something essential/desirable. The price seems pretty good, but then I am a total n00b with HDTV! http://planet.farnell.com/email/cpc/WebOffers/jan_1509alp.htm

I've pre-ordered Killzone 2 from Amazon (currently about £33), no goodies though It might come down to a flip of a coin between mirror's edge & Resident Evil 5  On a lighter point though, only 14 months or so until what social life I had goes out the window: http://www.vgreleases.com/ps3/ReleaseDate-21807.aspx

Now that I've been paid, I'll probably get Killzone 2, but I was also thinking of getting Mirror's Edge. Anyone else played this? at least more than the demo. Is it worth it?

I went to an osteopath a few times to try and sort out a back problem, and although it felt great for 24 - 48 hours after the appointment, a week after it always seemed to be back to square one. I gave up after about 5 sessions as all it seemed to do was empty my bank account. I've also tried hypnotherapy (not for the back), but again never really noticed any improvement, so jacked that in too. I now stick to the finest chemicals that the NHS has to offer.

I'm finding now that if I want to advance at all in my chosen career, I tend to get overlooked because I don't currently have a degree, even though I have nearly 15 years experience in the field. To rectify this I have spent the past three years, and will spend at least the next 12 months burning the candle at both ends doing a law degree and working full time. I just wish I did Uni properly first time round.

I started running all of those thing last night, there were a few cookies picked up, but nothing apparently serious. I've still got a couple of other programmes to run (from the sticky on this board). The PS3 is only on when I'm playing games. I don't even leave it on standby much. I have run folding@home but haven't done for a few months. That is what concerns me most. I would be held liable for what is downloaded through the connection. The volume isn't so much a problem (apart from strangling my speeds) as it's an unlimited service. Initial response from the ISP is that they think someone is piggybacking the connection, but they need to investigate more. In the meantime they've told me to beef up security as much as possible (change passwords, check MAC addresses etc), but a colleague sent me this link: http://www.businessknowledgesource.com/technology/protecting_your_wireless_network_from_hacking_025027.html Which didn't fill me full of confidence! Out of interest could Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) be a weak point?

Don't get me wrong, I like my neighbours a lot, but from what I know of them, I wouldn't have said they were capable of getting past the WPA & MAC filtering if they wanted to. Almost all of the traffic has been inbound, and sadly the 3Com routers log gets wiped when ever power is cut to it and I rebooted it at the weekend to get the PS3 connected. I'll contact f2s for some advice. In the meantime, I'm just going to double check the security that I can.

I tend to shut down all the pcs at night, even if a torrent is running, though the router tends to be left on 24/7 (or was until today). It's not so much the volume that concerns me, although if that has been affecting the speeds, that migh change my opinion. What does concern me, is if someone is using my connection, what are they downloading? Is this something to go to the ISP about?

On their website - freedom2surf No, but I did wonder why that guy took so long delivering a pizza across the road (Sorry, no I haven't noticed anyone lingering around outside!)

Hi, For the first time in some time, I logged on to my ISP's member pages as I've been having a few speed issues lately. Alarm bells started ringing when I noticed that last Thursday between 1am & 6am nearly 2GB of data was downloaded through my broadband connection (the mrs and I were sound asleep at the time) with a further 2.5GB during the day on Thursday. I then looked back at a few previous months and discovered that nearly 70GB of data was downloaded between October and December 08, yet my average use prior to that has been 3 - 5GB per month. I assume there are two possible causes for this: 1) the ISP has f*cked up, or 2) someone has hacked into the router. Before I go shouting at the ISP, is there some way of checking if the router has been hacked? For info, the router is a 3Com model with WPA-PSK and MAC address filtering enabled. Ta, Barfy

So not having played any previous resident evil games, is this one worth getting? (the video on Amazon looked good) and am I going to be missing part of the plot?
-
Same here, I've just got Vista Ultimate, and it works great for me. Took a while to re-orientate myself from XP, but I think I prefer it to XP and probably use it nearly as much as Ubuntu 8.10 now.

Likewise, but working in a partly open plan building I have to get up and go for a walk when I feel the urge to doze off.

To my shame I'm still struggling through some of the story content, but I have had a couple of goes at creating my own levels, though the one I thought was quite good just got reviews of 'annoying' so in a childish strop, I took it down again (it apparently had a glitch that I couldn't see in create mode).
-
I'm loving it at the moment. The start of the story levels are a bit too easy, but the later stuff really gets a lot tougher. The overall game reminds me of a much updated Sonic the Hedgehog... The two player aspect is also good, especially if you're a bit like me in having to complete everything. It also got my Mrs interested, and may even be the catalyst I needed to persuade her to let me have a HDTV I've not looked at any of the user created levels yet, but started looking at building my own. To me it looks like something to dip in and out of when I'm not actually in the mood to play the game itself. Overall I think LBP is fantastic, and a great antidote to getting myself pwned on CoD5

That looks like an awful picture of Scarlett Johansson, but she'd be in my top three in that list along with Cheryl Cole (another bad picture imo) and the one below Miss Johansson (whoever she is). Of course, I'm sure it'd be the highpoint of the year for each of them to know this fact.
