I'm struggling with this 'evidence' that you mention DPS... are you privy to our transfer strategy and our negotiations? Do you know who we're targeting and how things are progressing? Or do you simply mean 'based on what we know about so far'? I fully accept that you're disappointed/concerned with our overall transfer work SO FAR, but to claim that this is evidence of an entire strategy is clearly incorrect... we simply cannot know what our policy is, who we've been chasing/speaking to/putting bids in for, and so at best it is only your/my/our interpretation of what has come to fruition so far.

Text commentary only here Will watch highlights later.

Silver for the Mens Lightweight Coxless Four.

Seconded. Just for the hell of it.

It is a wide scale commercial issue and it all stemmed from advertisers trying to gain some ground. Costs of a purchase were generally always included in the advertised price but marketing people came up with the idea of advertising things more cheaply, with small print to indicate additional costs, to make headline costs look cheaper than competitors. It then got expanded by the airlines to allow for more and more 'extras', whilst keeping the original 'ticket price' low. It grew from there and started to become common practice. Saints aren't doing anything out of the ordinary, but this needs to change across all sectors IMO.

Sounds like a Budget speech.

All 13 British rowing teams are through to their respective finals. Looks promising.

Can't argue with debating of that quality. -
I've ignored the ignore function.

Of course you can comment, but there is no doubt that unless you've experienced the things being talked about, observed them first hand, then you cannot understand it to the same degree and should have some respect for those who have. I don't think VW makes his points particularly well at times, but I respect that fact that he HAS been there and done it. I don't see him as acting 'hard' or any kind of 'martyrdom', just relaying what his own experiences are.

Guys, you're not really going to let a thread about going off-topic and having a pop at each other, end up going that way are you?! lol You've just ably demonstrated some of the points we've talked about. The need to reply to someone when you could just as easily ignore them and let the thread take it's course, potentially creating work for mods and detracting from a constructive discussion. Hypo, not singling you out here, but you are quite prone to this... your comments about MLG sum this up. Yes he can be pedantic, and sometimes he too needs to think about what he posts, but your issues with him are based on the fact that he likes to clarify every point, reply to everyone and answer every point that is raised in reply to him, almost to excess. It does lead to a lot of posts, many of which we don't really *need* but in itself it is not a bad thing, and is not causing the problems we've talked about. When people exploit him however, and ask incessant or pointless questions which he doesn't pick up on it, and so continues to reply and reply and reply, that then starts to creates a situation. So, if you think he has been pedantic but know what was meant, then just leave it. Or if you want to point it out or take it up with him, PM him. But I think everyone should bear the original thread subject in mind when replying and ask if they're on topic, and contributing more to that subject, or if they're only making the problem worse.

It would appear the design is pretty much the same, but it's more the performance I'm interested in.

Well, lets see how it performs before we slate it...

That's actually an interesting point... I'm the same. I have plenty of Sky-watching mates who seem to watch football 24/7 and have heard of every player under the sun but I'll readily admit that I haven't heard of a large proportion of Premier League defenders, especially those who aren't at big clubs or internationals. I may have heard a name in passing but know so little about that level because of the time we've spent out of it. -
I agree, especially having been there and done it, but this is why I suggested you perhaps need more mods to deal with the sheer number of posts. Plus, infractions need to be used more, with clear, consistent application and explanations, so that if someone consistently offends, they are banned, temporarily or permanently. Communication is king, both to forum users, and between mods, so that consistent standards are applied and everyone know what is happening and why... Some mods come across as having a bit of an attitude at times too, which I'm sure is not intended, but the perception is there, and that never helps resolve a situation. It's not an easy job, especially to do well, and I respect anyone who does it, but on a forum of this size, I think it needs a few more resources and co-ordination.

Fair enough, I interpreted it differently and I apologise for that. I still think that the club probably have things in hand and that it is unlikely that we could change too much to help, but admittedly I don't know all the ins and outs. As always with these things though, there is a balance to be struck between getting the right person in, and getting someone ASAP as time progresses. It's a bit of a risk assessment, sometimes you get bitten on the arse, sometimes you don't. I want us to get a CB or two in also, but I would always prefer we get someone we really want rather than having to settle for someone else just to get them in the door. If that means a minor risk in the first few games then personally, that's a risk I'm willing to take, but not everyone would. We'll see what transpires. -
You seem to make no allowance for other teams over-performing or 'pulling one out of the bag'. The favourites do not always win. This is why sport is so compelling... underdogs can succeed, favourites can sometimes fall short. You make it all sound so simplistic. And to then make the link that one potential failure would affect everyone else...?! Well, I can only hope you never seek to coach or teach anyone because that kind of mentality would stop many athletes before they got very far. Have you ever fallen short at something? Or do you always achieve everything you set out to? If you were beaten at something by someone who put in an exceptional performance, would you give up? If everyone slated you as a result, how would you feel? You do the same with Saints... grudging credit only when we win, unable to see merit in any performance if we don't, and you sap the enthusiasm out of anyone who listens. YOU might think you're right, clearly, but sometimes you have to stop and look around at the influence you're having and think about why other people hold the opinion of you that they do.

How do you know bids haven't been put in? How do you know we aren't already talking to some? You don't. We should really know by now that we generally hear very little, if not nothing, about potential transfers, and whilst it's understandable to be a bit anxious that we sign someone, I certainly don't think we are in any position to be suggesting how Saints should conduct their transfer activity. As for suggesting that Adkins 'concentrate' on signings and let Crosby run the team... sorry that's just ridiculous IMHO. As we constantly hear from NA, Saints have plenty of staff working on this, and we need to have some faith and some patience that they are doing the best they can. -
