So Jessica Ennis has a 258pt lead going into the final two events. Apparently Ennis' personal best at Javelin is over 7m shorter than her rival, but she would have to throw about 12m less than her to lose her lead going into the 800m. That's not a bad cushion to have.

Should Oscar Pistorius be allowed to compete in the Olympics?
Minty replied to jawillwill's topic in The Lounge
I would suggest it is down to the authorities in the sport to look at the prosthetics, and do analysis of them compared to a 'normal' lower leg, to see how they compare in terms of their athletic merits. It's all very well to say 'it gives him an advantage' but that needs to be qualified and none of us are in a position to do so. On the face of it I would agree they LOOK like they give him an advantage, but only by measuring the power transfer, their ability to flex, how much energy is transferred through them, leg speed etc, etc can an informed judgement be made. The article above is one of the better ones I've seen and personally, I currently agree that there is still not enough know about it to allow him to compete just yet. So my short answer would also be: No. -
Womens Team Pursuit team just smashed the World Record in qualifying...!

I think Chaplow will have a role to play from the bench more often than not, bringing some energy to the middle of the park perhaps at key times in games. It's been a key thing for some time now (even though so many fans seem to miss these things) that Adkins has highlighted that sometimes players have a specific role, and that our tactics and the starting XI (and subs) are often picked to do specific jobs. Chappers is unlikely to be a first choice in many games next year IMO, but he'll have an important role to play at times.

And Federer wins 19-17... ouch.
-
Federer vs Del Potro is a bit mad... 18-17 in the final set.
-
Smashed, definitely smashed. Just outside their own world record time from yesterday, fully expect it to go again later in the final vs Australia.
-
Pendleton smashed it. Hoy smashed it. Lots of rowers have smashed it. Jessica Ennis smashed it in the hurdles this morning. I think we need a new phrase.

No way, really? Are you... Erm, I mean are they?

Can't comment on pav, but Ric certainly didn't think that... there were obviously people who knew Keith well, and a lot of either were friends already or made new friends through S4E. If that makes anyone part of an 'in' gang (lol) then so be it. There's no doubt that if you someone off away from a forum, it's easier to interpret their posts and you know their sense of humour. As I said on another thread, the forums have changed over the years. I happily admit that I took it all way too seriously early on, and Paul Allen and Tyler and co got their moneys worth from me. MLG and others are probably the 'new generation' of that. I still think it's a bit sad that people get so much enjoyment purely from winding others up but I just let it go nowadays. Key thing has always been the reason *why* you use a 'mong board'. Funnily enough, a lot of people like to discuss Saints stuff fairly seriously. Others, like most of you lot from the 'Golden Era', may comment on things a bit but otherwise just have a laugh. The two don't mix too well sometimes, hence the resulting issues. Anyway, life's too short to worry about it all really. Threads like this seem to show who takes it more seriously nowadays anyway, while many of the people mentioned have buggered off and got a life. Obviously not me though.

No gold medals, I was simply a mong. A Jizz Mopping Mong. As you well know. I don't think anyone else has earnt that title since, so I'm pretty unique.

Hardly a new found love, more that my ambivalence has waned.

Indeed, just to back you up, the Beeb said:

Was it not? BBC live text says it was Hindes, Kenny then Hoy.

Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
Minty replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
We all know that the climate has changed over the years. The key questions are whether we are having more of an effect than might otherwise be exhibited without our influence. Can I just add that it's good to read some decent debate, thanks Saint Bobby. Saint George could learn a thing or two. -
This thread has held up so far... it would be really nice if, out of respect for our Olympians, it didn't descend into unnecessary comments. British Mens Team Sprint team about to go in the heat with Germany.

I have to say that on first glance, I prefer it to the old site... the navigation is clearer and it's more readable. No major changes to the functionality as far as I can see so nothing to really shout about, but nice enough. Would still prefer something a bit more original but I guess that's the contract we're in.
-
But you don't know who else we might be targetting, who we might also have brought in but haven't yet concluded negotiations etc? That's my point... *if* the transfer window shut today, and *if* Adkins came out to say 'we got exactly who we wanted' then your judgement of our ambition might be fair enough. But the window is open for some time yet, Adkins has clearly stated that he wants more people to come in, we don't know who is being targeted or what negotiations are taking place, so none of us can possibly know what our ambition in the transfer market is at this point.

You might want to word things differently to this then:

The player stats were out of date on the old design already, I don't think there is any different content at all, just the design has changed.

Otherwise known as 'Naughty Korea'! (from the 'Metro of Brisbane' newspaper):

Good post from someone else with first hand experience of what is actually happening up there.
-
lol, no thanks. I think you need to lighten up a bit. Well I'd be happy to hear from some of them so we have something specific to go on, but in the absence of that, a direct testimony from someone that thedelldays (your puerile names for them don't do your cause much good) knows is good enough for me. These are, after all, young men and women who will quite rightly look to make the most of any opportunity that comes their way, especially as they could well be back on the front line soon. You clearly think their conditions are not good enough. I would generally agree, it's far from ideal, but it does seem as though the situation has been overhyped a bit.
-
Perfect. You couldn't make it up.
-
I think the direct answer would probably be rude and offensive, but I'll interpret: It's not ideal, it's far from what anyone would like, but given the freebies attached and in comparison with various operational theatres around the world, it is far more preferable.
