It wasnt me who linked football and the war in Afghanistan; the FA did that before the tournament started with the big media saturation of the meassage from the soliders to the squad and Beckhams visit to Afghanistan. I think that a comparison of the effort different groups are willing to make for their country is a perfectly valid and non-offensive exercise. Only deluded academic snobs and Guardianistas would try to turn this into some sort of high-brow philosophical exercise the way you have. Do you even know what "satire" means ? Why ? I simply highlighted a group of people for whom their country means sufficiently enough they they are willing to die for it, and contrasted this to a bunch over over-paid arrogant tw*ts that wont even try properly for their country for 90mins.

Apart from the fact that we struggled in the group stage against the likes of Algeria and Solvenia who were no better than most of the teams we tonked in quals. At first I gave this theory short shrift, but the fact is that Terry was the outcast of the squad at least once in the last 3 weeks. And england played pretty well before this scandal. I am beginning to think there is some mileage in this, but at least the solution is simple: ensure Terry never pulls on the 3 lions again.

After looking at PL standards and egos in the England team today, I am suddenly much more upbeat about another season as a big fish in the small League 1 pond. We (or rather you as I live abroad and wont get to games next season) will be watching a TEAM, fighting for each other and a common goal - to get this club promoted. The bizarre thing is, if we get promoted, it will bring us one step nearer to the self-centred hedonistic ****** we had to endure today............ At least our next season is about sporting achievement, I suppose..

Apparently Lampard and Gerrard, rather than reflecting on their utterly dire personal WC campaigns, have commented to the press that they want Capello to stay on. What f**king business is it of theirs ? Wont they play if the manager is changed ?
