Excellent comment. I simply could not believe that third goal. Not only was the freekick plain sh*t from Lampard, he didnt even bother running back to help stop the counter attack until it was far too late.

Lampard and Barry were f**king awful. Gerrard's sense of where the goal was just wasted chance after chance. Rooney - I dont even know where to begin. Did he send his crap twin brother to South Africa ? We need a complete rebuild before Euro 2010 starts. Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Barry all need to be gone, and I would think twice before building the team play round Rooney again..

You are absolutely right. But if we hadnt won the Battle of Britian, Germany would have had air superiority over Britain, would have invaded, and then the Americans would never have been able to get a foothold in Europe. And Russia were not strong enough to defeat Germany alone. The world would look a very different place now, especially as Germany would probably have unilaterally nuked the US eastern seaboard with the "New York Rocket" they were developing.

yes they do, but there is an article in on one of yesterdays paper web sites (or maybe it was the BBC site) that indicated the football rivalry between England and Germany is tongue-in-cheek and based on respect (at least from the German side) whereas the Dutch-German football rivalry is pased on pure loathing from both sides.

I agree.

I work for a German company in Austria, and have many German colleagues. My boss is German. Not one of them has ever given me sh*t over the football or because I am English. Unlike the locals, it has to be said. I respect them, and they respect us, and the English tabloids are a f**king embarassment, especially the willful mis-translating and mis-representation of Beckenbauer earlier this week.

Being a 40-something and not a 70-something, I would rather lose to Germany than Argentina. The Falklands war rings more of a resonance with me than WW2, and I kind of have a grudging respect for Germans. Merkel commands respect more than that plastic over-made-up tart in charge of Argentina. I would like us to beat both, but I reckon even the most optimistic amongst us (NickG ?) wouldnt bet on that.

Already decided that I will follow Japan and US when we go out to the Krauts or the Argies

I was talking to work colleagues in the US this afternoon. The WC has really caught the public imagination over there this time, its been getting equal billing to the end of the NBA playoffs. BUT it is still regarded as the sport kids do until they are strong and/or skilled enough to do ice-hockey or amercian football. Football is at a cross-roads in the US... Personally, I reckon an Asian WC winner isnt so far off (Africa is further away). Japan look bloody good, and made us look ordinary in Graz. The are well organised, attacking and score goals. And S. Korea came 4th in 2002, equalling our best effort of the last 20 years..
