Not sure I "want to be out of it", but its a valid argument. I dont recall any wailing and gnashing of teeth about blowing Euro qualification last season. I may have expressed disappointment and frustration at dropping from 2nd to 7th a couple of times though. And even if I did, I didnt have a crystal ball to indicate that we would lose key players again this summer (although Morgan was a safe bet), that we would replace with questionable quality, or that we would start this season so badly. EPL has always to be first priority. Sorry, its the economics of the situation. Not my doing.

According to the Star, we are close to signing him and still want VVD. Makes me think the Fonte interest from Villa may lead to something... Celtic also after Simunovic, apparently - suggests VVD on his way.

Corks return from injury post-Olympics turned the 2012-2013 season around. His contribution to the team was grossly underestimated. And as of today, he would fill the Morgan-sized hole better than our current incumbents (though I conceed that may change)

I know what you are trying to say, but its more disruptive to the team than that. They have to travel, stay in hotels, etc. Injury risk is higher from live games than training too. I think its a reasonable argument to say that we need to get our EPL house in order as top priority; even if we dont come out on top next week in Denmark, we've had our fun in the sun, havent we ?

I know. But can we really sustain the effort if the team is eviscerated every summer ? I think there are genuine concerns that this summer is different from last; we've brought in quantitiy so have a deeper squad, probably to address Europe, but we've lost quality.

Do we really want to progress to the group stage ? We look to have our hands full sorting out our Premier League effort. 6 group matches will be one helluva distraction and drain of energy...

Reading about Toby's screw-up for Spurs this weeking and the bleating he has come out with (referring to Big Vic and Morgan), and also considering how ill-at-ease our defence is so far this season, could it be that our defence last season was an almost unique combination of talents - a "whole greater than the sum of its parts" - which any team is going to find difficult to reproduce with only one part or the other ? Look at how bad Lovren was last season too.

Back to the Dark Ages at SMS. The replacing of 20m talent with 4-5m wannabees has become Lowe-esque. Turned out OK last summer, but perhaps it was sheer beginners luck. Personally think the club strategy as well as the team became well-exposed today.
