Agreed. But think it has a lot more to do with England chasing the game with 10min left and actually committing men forward with the fresh legs of bowen and grealish. As opposed to saka and mount playing in a team with 7 defensive players and no support... Depends if you blame some of the most gifted players in the prem or a championship level manager who can't use them.
-
He was, we got very lucky.
-
No to both of these for me. I really think it's just a case of Southgate just being tactically awful. It's not Mount's fault or saka's fault. We could have Messi, mbappe, and neymar up front and we'd still play 7 defensive players and 3 attackers playing in opposing 3rds of the pitch and be outnumbered in both with walking tempo passing. Mount and saka are both class players in an attack minded team that has some form of cohesion and keeps the ball.
-
Yeah agree with all that, and for sure - fingers crossed!
-
Agreed sadly. Despite having arguably the best season of any English central midfielder, he finds himself 4th choice - possibly 5th if you assume Henderson is going. Philips presumably preferred becuase Southgate only sees a big defensive lump and that's the extent of his tactical requirements. Feels verh harsh on JWP.
-
Tripper, and then Philips and Bellingham being preferred to JWP and KWP. Typical by Gareth.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

Its obviously only coming about because of brexit, but it doesn't overly bother me the way it does others - but then I use both regularly anyway. As for outdated? Imperial is still used by America... Its just not as clearly logical as metric. And let's be honest, its only not used in this country because EU legislation made it illegal and we suffer from over zealous enforcement. If they want to give people the freedom to also use imperial again then I don't have an issue myself - it's not going to replace metric is it?! I've seen a fair few people getting very upset by this proposal. The reality is they are getting rather swivel eyed about other people being allowed to simply use units of measurement that they are more comfortable with π€·ββοΈ. Which at worst is exercising petty control / restrictions over others, at best an irrelevance. It will fade away if it isn't used with no harm to anyone. Conversely, imagine what it was like for those people when they were forced to abandon imperial and adopt metric with no choice in the matter. This really is nothing to fret about in comparison? As for costs - if a grocer wants to scribble on the price per lbs above his/her potatoes, what does it matter? We still use miles, our entire rail network is set out in chains and yards, height is mostly feet and inches, and babies are pounds and ounces... If anything, displaying both measurements might actually add better understanding and context between unit types for some people π€·ββοΈ The only thing I can't countenance is Fahrenheit. Why! -
Couldn't disagree more with the sentiments of this post. By all accounts Semmens and Ralph have both done good jobs over the past 4 years given the financial constraints and squad they inherited post Reed and krueger. The end to this season was a big dissapointment, but we were never in danger of relegation and in reality reached the required points total (for survival) after 27 games. I see no reason at all not to be excited by the new owners, they've not made a mistake so far, have serious resumes behind them, and have made nothing but the right noises about being "serious" and building a portfolio of clubs centered on saints...
-
We finished 15th and 5 points clear of the drop zone. Reckon fans need to stop evaluating the season quite so harshly. It was a dissapointing end to the season, but we weren't in a relegation scrap for even a single game week and were basically safe after 27games (35points)... The fact we only got 5 more points after that is just very poor. π€·ββοΈ

Agreed. My mind is made up on him and has been for a while. He's an awful manager tactically, and has no clue how to switch things up and when to go on the offensive etc. England will win nothing with him and that has been more than demonstrated by the last 2 tournaments for me. π€·ββοΈ

Also, on this requirement for captains to be English... You lot being serious? Which one of you is going to call up chielini and let him know he's a rubbish captain with no backbone? Probably fair if said person also let's Neuer / Ronaldo / Lloris know whilst there at it as well? π.

Having watched the YouTube clips, he looks reasonably strong, quick feet under pressure (but not someone to dribble at defences), very right footed, decent placed finish on him, reasonable corner delivery, and most strikingly of all, someone who will make quick and decisive passes up the pitch for players to run onto... (Which is specifically something that we need). He would do nicely in our team as a part of a midfield 3 with romeu as the defensive mid and JWP box to box. Failing that, he could possibly replace JWP in a midfield 2. He can maybe do a stu Armstrong style job on the right, but given his best asset seems to be passing and vision, that would seem to be a waste of him. Ultimatley though, he looks a decent player that would improve on most of our midfield / CAMs.

Well called. BRF 1-0 MLG.

I'd argue they are both good squad players for us. Every now and then i get the impression Redmond is only just shy of being a good winger... but as you say, he doesn't do it consistently. I do think Redmond's game would improve more than the rest if he wasn't surrounded by other very average attackers.
-
The mistake you guys are making is being wrong in debates with MLG - don't be doing that to yourselves....

If our transfer plan is to trick youngsters into signing for Jong Ajax, i'm not sure it's going to work...

This analogy makes no sense. Products don't go to a gym to work on their fitness. Players do. Increasing the gym's capacity and facilities will allow a greater level of physio care and fitness training which will therefore lead to improvements in those aspects. Also, the "factory" I believe you are referring to, is currently supporting two rather decent youth teams for the club. Why anyone would be complaining about an investment in the clubs training and academy infrastructure i do not know - particularly as it will be used by the Women's team going professional as well. This is a good thing π§
-
Now that would be good business. Extra sweet if we can get some choice words in about what a well run club Burnley "used" to be...
-
Lets be fair, broadly speaking clubs like Everton and Forest have far rougher fanbases than us. We can barely be bothered to sing or boo, I know we've got some numpty fans as well, but the numbers of saints fans likely to run on the pitch and deck a footballer just isn't gong to be very high.

A shame, really hoped we were going to move for players of his calibre.

My tottenham supporting mate thinks Winks is absolute garbage and wants him out of the club. Badly hope this link isn't true.

https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/football-news/southampton-west-ham-matchday-experience-7140079?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar I enjoy the band myself... but outside of that we really do need to improve the matchday experience. The fan bond to the team (and associated songs/atmosphere) has been bad since Les and Co dismembered the promotion team (in summer 14?). After that it never really recovered with players always coming and going. Need to badly get some stability paired with success, and get some good / original fan chants on the go again for me. A proper home end would certainly help with this. Goes without saying that the food and drink are bang average at best.

The youth teams have been playing his style quite successfully this year. Hopefully with some good backing we see an improvement in the first team as well.
-
We need a 3 man midfield, with romeu sitting, JWP box to box, and someone like eriksen being given the freedom to play (due to the other 2) and create.
