He needs to be dropped and a replacement brought in this window if Welington or Bree aren't up to it. Funnily enough, I actually feel a bit sorry for him in that he tries and cares but just doesn't have the skills, apart from the odd dead-ball situation. It isn't his fault that he gets picked and played regularly. That said. He has to go.

At least that's a 4-4-2 option and HDJAJFU in this division

Maybe 3. I'm sure someone knows for sure here.

Only one more year I think as the previous time in the Championship counts as 1 year of the 3

He really is a lightweight in terms of physical presence and ability to command the 6 yard box at corners, or gettable crosses, so its no wonder the opposition have figured that out.

Not quick enough in the play

Downes is not making himself available enough for a pass out of defence. They need him to provide the option.

I am a critic of Bazunu. I don't think his positioning in goal is optimal, he seems to always dive late and behind him, doesn't always command the 6 yard box (although last night did get to on a few noticable occasions), but...provided that the defensive line doesn't pass him a ball on the ground with little or no option to pass or clear out, he has some ball skills that can be used to our benefit. Often, when we were on the offensive and the ball needed a fast recycle he was available and assisted in getting the ball forward again in a structured move. That contrast of how he was used was there to see when considering both halves. We just need to get that position play and positivity in the box coached and we could be acknowledging we have a good keeper rather than a dodgy one who is just a part time 11th outfield player.

He was pretty ineffective last night, so you have to wonder about keeping him on.
-
I think we need to give him some time yet to adapt to the Championship style and pace versus what he has developed under so far in Germany. He's only getting the odd game at the moment so for a youngster (which he is) it's still a learning curve and tough for one off games. He's not like Downs who is definitely not up to scratch to even play and learn in my opinion, he's a definite prospect that needs some support. To take the view that he's a dud already is premature.

Just interviewed during the World Cup draw after Japan were drawn with the Dutch. Apparently RK is happy with that.

So Bruce Grobbelaar and John Burridge dont make that list? Both after Shilton.

Did anyone else think that Downes' reaction on Tuesday to getting booked was a little fake and ham acting at best? If Eckert had told him to not get booked then he was pretty reckless in many of his challenges up until that point. Maybe I'm cynical but it looks like warming the bench is currently his favourite position.
