  1. Sunak wins with the MPs; Boris wins with the membership; Commons Standards & Privileges Committee finds him in contempt and suspends him triggering a by-election; Boris loses his seat. Rishi takes over.
  2. If you want to consider a 'broken' country, look to Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan, etc. Things in the UK may be sub-optimal but they could be very much worse.

    Russia

From Ukrainian Pravda; Ukrainian journalists have recognised their car and equipment among the loot that Russian propagandists tried to take out of occupied Kherson. "Well, for the sake of news, hidden GPS trackers were installed on the company's moving property (equipment, vehicles). The strike [launched by Ukrainian forces against a convoy of Russian occupiers at a pontoon crossing under the Antonivka Bridge - ed.] was highly accurate."
  4. With FPTP you get the continuing BS from whichever side wins a GE, "the People gave us a mandate". When was the last UK Government that won a majority of the votes cast, let alone a majority of the Electorate ? 1935. With all subsequent elections more voted for somebody else than for the Party that gained power. The current shower got a big majority with 43.6% of the vote, Blair's landslide 179 seat majority in 1997 got less, 43.2%. There is an extreme example mathematical exercise where you can work out that a party can win 49% of the votes cast yet end up with zero seats in the Commons.
  5. Not getting at you specifically Ed, but this is definitely one for the "Small Things That Annoy You" thread, and it can be seen so many times. Unless you are usurping the crown you seize the reins.
  6. Best steer clear of the thread discussing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  7. The player animations in the corner of the screen during televised football matches.
  8. Plenty of Tory MPs saying they will resign if he gets back into #10.
  9. And standing outside shops with a stuffed dummy asking for "a penny for the guy,".
  10. Twat. If you think Boris was forced to resign over a piece of cake you are deluded and ignorant.
  11. The Tories will elect the new Prime Minister via an online ballot. It is illegal for Trade Unions to carry out online ballots.
  12. Pimp
  13. Just in time for the Standards and Privileges Committee to sanction him.
  14. A quote on BBC News- " The Government continues to function". The lights on the Titanic stayed on until she was half submerged.
  15. She has to have a "good excuse" for missing the vote. Being shit scared of facing her MPs might not count.
  16. It is a sorry state of affairs when the Parliamentary Conservative party don't trust the party's lay membership in a leadership vote. Don't forget that Truss was in third place behind Sunak and Mordaunt in the MP ballots until the fifth round, when Badenoch's supporters had to recast their votes after her elimation in round 4, and Hunt, currently appearing to be the de facto seat of power in the Cabinet, was eliminated in round 1.
  17. I have worked out what the Tories are up to; they are letting everybody have a go, in turn, at being PM before they get obliterated at the next GE.
  18. After the "Is it / isn't it a vote of confidence" farce, Tories who did not vote with the Government have been told they will be disciplined. Does this mean that Teresa May, Kwarsi Kwarteng, and Priti Patel, among others, will have the party whip removed ?
  19. Lord David Frost in July; "Liz Truss has the right ideas and the energy to deliver them" Lord David Frost this evening; "Liz Truss must leave as soon as possible"
  20. Truss is still in office, so it isn't going to get better.
  21. This is normal.
  22. "Forty Tory MPs abstained in Labour's fracking motion earlier, meaning they did not vote yes or no on it. Among the MPs who abstained are Chief Whip Wendy Morton. Tory MPs have told the BBC she is no longer in post - though her position is still unclear. PM Liz Truss is also listed as having not voted. We don't know why she wasn't present. Other notable MPs who didn't vote are former PM Theresa May, former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng and former Home Secretary Priti Patel. We don't know how many abstained on principle as Parliament doesn't record the reason for not voting - they may have been unable to be in Westminster. But given that earlier in the day the vote was being described as a confidence motion, the fact that such senior MPs did not vote will raise eyebrows"
