( By my reckoning - including today, looking at second half performances )..... Since we beat Sheff Utd 3-0 on 13th December we have played 27 league games. In those games we have "won" the second half 5 times, and "lost" it 15 times. Of 8 games we had been leading at half time we went on to win 3, draw 2, and lose 3. Of 7 games we were drawing at half time we went on win 2, draw 3, and lose 3. We lost all 11 of the games where we were behind at half time.

The problem from day one of the international intervention was always going to be how to disengage. Afghanistn is not a "Failed State", it is not possible for it become a Viable State because of the tribalism and factionalism across the country, and conesequently no single person or group can unite to govern and control. In the last few days the current leader of the country has flown to a northern district capital to try to persuade two local warlords to join the national army in opposing the Taliban - two leaders who he had previously deliberately sidelined and ignored, preferring to impose his favourites from elsewhere onto the regional Government, Police, and military leadership. Many of the people in rural and remote areas are extremely 'conservative' in their beliefs and resent / resist Western influences, which they see as being imnposed by an out of touch cabal in Kabul.

Possibly, but the first step in any US answer to an international problem is to unleash their B-52s and blanket bomb the other side. Remember, the current situation started because the Taliban, or at least one of the factions, were sheltering Bin Laden. ( And of course, who armed the Talibannies and OBL in the first place ? We average 1.5 goals conceded per 90 minutes across the last 2 seasons when Bednarek plays. Admittedly that is better than Stephens or Salisu ( last season ), ( Vesty is slightly better ), but it isn't really good enough for a player that is our first choice..

Who were the alternatives ?

I don't rate Bednarek as good enough to be the 'senior' starter of the pair and Salisu has played 50 first team games in his career to date.

Do you think that by playing they will demonstrate that their value should increase ?
