Pretty much similar story has surfaced linking michael laudrup, swansea manager to the benfica job. The only difference is that his agent has knocked the story back saying he was only at benfica to catch up wirh friends etc..

Would you take 17th if Villa win tonight?
FloatingbridgeSaint replied to whelk's topic in The Saints
I'm hoping for a sunderland win to keep villa pinned down below us on 34pts & thus will require 2 wins from their last 3 games to overtake us. the fact that this remaining games are against Norwich, chelsea & wigan means this is unlikely. Even if sunderland move above us it will only be temporary if we start putting some more points on the board. -
I reckon Jayrod will want to show NA what he missed by placing out on the wing. He has spoken out a fair bit recently about thanking MP for the faith he has put in him & I suspect Jayrod will have a point to prove this weekend. I'm going for the away win but agree with previous comments that this has slippery banana written all over it.(both options covered there! lol)

Would love to be optimistic but after yesterdays game it has me nervous for the result. I thought QPR would be unmotivated for the win, they were not on form but neither was our finishing in the last third. Another performance like that & it will be two teams in poor performance mode grinding out a draw or perhaps one side will nick it either way. THe man utd result may even give them the kick up the butt they needed however as the other results did little to effect our overall position, did our result give us a kick? We shall see! I think I'll switch off all media runup to this game as I get more & more positive in the run up & then feel let down with a result like yesterday. Still beleive we will survive but just dont want to be in the relegation conundrum on the last day of season.
-
Actually, just reading a previous post that mentioned swapping the results of Man Citeeh & QPR makes me feel a little better. What I really dislike though is the team getting us all moist with excitement after the citeh game & then delivering 2 straight losses. We know we are capable so what the hell is going wrong? Also surely Mayuka & Forren can't be that far of the pace surely?

Very disappointed! In fact the last time I felt this low was when Wet Spam beat us this season. Just gutted & HR getting one over us. Last 2 games we should have one & although I think we will stay up, it will probably be down to other teams playing poorly rather than us playing well. A per a previous post, tomorrow its all going to be about super Harry this & that...bet they won't say QPR were lucky as they played a below par Saints side or is it only us that gets to win against below par sides. Yet again we are missing that killer instinct in the goal area. If this vision" of european football is actually true then provided we stay up (still think we will) then I think we must already be planning a mass sell off of players in the summer & we plan on spending big to put some oomph into the side. Cannot see NC being happy with this result in the slightest.

Is a weird thing, up until this season I had nothing against Wet Spam or their BFS however, at the start of this season when they were on a decent run & we were getting battered I had loads of so called mates suddenly come out of the closet as WH supporters & giving it large. In fact some of them were quite rude when basking in their glory. I just quietly repeated to them that like the season before, it is a long season & anything can happen. Funny now they are on what some refer to as a barren spell, that all these earlier "mates" have gone very quiet indeed. Which makes results like last night make me very happy as it still keeps them within touching distance. However, my opinion of WH supporters especially here in Kent is that a lot of them seem to have inherited the old Millwall tagline of "no one likes us & we don't care". Weird.
-
I cant see QPR having the spine for this sort of game. To me they already look like they are resigned to being relegated but couldn't care less as they will still get paid or negotiate moves elsewhere. I bet their agents are already lining up moves as a backup plan. That said, I actually thought after the Man City game we would take Newcastle apart but seems the 2 weeks break put us into lazy mode. All I want is for us not to be involved in a survival battle on the last day of the season!

Drinking alcohol in your seats
FloatingbridgeSaint replied to thornhill_saints's topic in The Saints
Controversial but as someone who takes his kids to the games I would say no to alcohol in the terraces as it would only take one incident to ruin it for the many who can control themselves. Derby games especially where passion is already at its peak & alcohol would cause some serious damage by the mindless few.And it doesn't really need to be the mindless few either as I've seen perfectly decent people turn into monsters or nuisances after a few shandies. I'm sure the extra policing costs would outweigh the profit on the beer anyway so possibly a non starter. I'm also sure that Sky & all the other media people who pump squillions into the game don't really want to broadcast images of some drunken person swaying with a lager in their hand. Pleas dont get me wrong - I'm all for people having a great time & enjoying a beer or two but football terraces are potentially not as civilised as tennis courts so would prefer safety & enjoyment anytime. Just my humble opinion. -
I think it is likely that we will be the subject of many summer outgoing transfer rumours with the way the team is playing at the moment. I'm sure the media will hype up Lambert potential bids to the hilt along with just about every other performing player. I think we need to nail our intent to the mast early & publicly announce that key players are not for sale plus make a big 1 or 2 signings early on. By doing this is will signal that we are not willing to settle for survival or mid table next season.
-
Was reading today that 2 of the new signings will not be playing in the EL game & that the opponents are on a mid season break so AP may well field a weaker side to begin with & leave the backup on the bench if required.

I reckon he will make a return for us. This is a good move for all really. Back in Japan he will get a fair bit of game time to bring him back to fitness in what I assume is a far less challenging league then say the championship if we had loaned him out over here - possibly less chance of injury? Also the OS mentioned that "Chung is scheduled to return to Southampton ahead of pre-season in the summer" which sounds like a statement of intent. Could be wrong but I don't recall seeing the same statement for others who have gone on loan like Billy Sharp.
-
Apologies if I'm way off the mark here but obviously brought in for his footballing skills but I heard somewhere that it was also to start establishing a fan base in Asia too. With two Japanese players it seems we are making headway with that in terms of becoming a global brand (perhaps part of the "project?"). would like to see him fit & get some game time but I think this season is possibly too much to ask after injuries & given that we need players who are used to playing together to get us to safety. Perhaps if & when we reach the hallowed safety zone & hopefully before the last game of season then if he is featuring on the bench then he may get a run out. Same applies to Mayuka. Don't think he will feature too much this season but may become a key figure next season.

It could almost be poetic - Lambert scoring his 100th goal for Saints against the former manager who signed him for us? Would love that although am more looking forward to yet another team having an "off" day because we have beaten them..lol

Hang my head in shame for forgetting Neil "Razor" Ruddock.. also, Jimmy Case Joe Jordan Mick Mills Mark Wright

I took the kids to the Chelsea FA Cup game & we were in a box. Seating & view decent but service from the staff was terrible. We ordered drinks at the start of half time which we still had not received by the end of half time by which you have to vacate the inside part & any remaining drinks are cleared by the waiting staff - which is all very well provided we actually had got the drinks in the first place. It seemed a bit of a shambles to be honest as I overheard lots of other people complaining. Fortunately we had smuggled in some grub with us so the kids were not complaining too much however for what you would expect from hospitality this fell way short of expectations. My advice would be to order drinks early & double up on them too to save having to re order. Perhaps even entertain them food wise somewhere local first before the game? Hope this helps!
